>>115867242Our salvation will come from the brain's plasticity. I was thinking more of using implants to progressively replace the parts that fail with age/accidents, a la ship of Theseus. Since, as you said, we're just a bunch of connections and reactions, it wouldn't mater if we transfer it somewhere as long as said reactions are still ongoing.
But you can't correctly compare an organic consciousness to a program, because in a machine you can separate the memory and the computation, while in a brain, it's muddled.
In a machine you could say that the intelligence itself is in the memory, while what make the intelligence happen(?) is the cpu, and perceive time via the clock cycles.
For us organics, time is a succession of events and entropy, so it's less consistant and relies more on perception.
The "you" is a succetion of things that keep going in a cycle, and I intend to keep that cycle going, because that's all we are, and if we loose that wee might as well commit every atrocities in the book because you woidlnt perceive it as "you" doing it.
On a side note, if an android like discussed in this thread ever exist, I'm installing backup drives by force so she can be transfered ship of Theseus style rather than straight up copy pasted.
