It's funny that they used an episode in their last season to do a parody of the 2016 election when they already did an episode back in 2015 that predicted the future perfectly.

It has some surprisingly fucked up humor at times. Nice animation that aged better than some of the movies, though it’s essentially a prequel to them.

Highlight of the series is the Exiled story arc. It gives the show a serialized story line that never feels out of place with the show’s humorous tone. It gives Mort lore that feels more like a shitpost when you read it at first.

That was an awesome series. I didn't care for the Madagascar movies, but this series is friggin great. In fact every Netflix/Dreamworks series has been stellar. I haven't seen the HTTYD series cuz I couldn't stand Hiccup's voice in the movies and I'm sure they hired a sound-alike, but I'm pretty sure people loved it, too.

A lot of the humor and plots are derived from acknowledging how King Julien's heritage is a dictatorship from a long line of psychopaths and how they oppressed the lemurs to stay in power.

They actually wanted the whole show to be like that, but Netflix wanted them to make an episodic comedy. Then, when Netflix saw how popular their serialized content was, they requested an entire season like that.

The closest they have is Kipo, which is based on a webcomic no one read. Also, you could count 3Below and Wizards since they're spin-offs from Trollhunters, which barely resembles the original book anyway.
