>>115484832A lot of the earlier stuff was that author’s (and society in general) didn’t really think of it as rape. It was, in their eyes, when someone is held down and over powered, in back alleys. I remember reading an article about a woman who was 19 in the 80s. She went on a date with someone and afterwards they hung out at his apartment, where he raped her. Even her own father said it couldn’t have been rape because she knew him and went into his house willingly.
Similarly, in comics, if a character seems to show willing it’s not rape even if that willingness is caused by outside forces. Now that rape is much more widely recognised as ‘sex without consent’ the older stuff is much more clearly creepy. You can see it in the character’s reactions. A shape shifter tricks Dick Grayson into fucking her in the form of Starfire and his friends make fun of him for it.
