There was a toy line Mattel came up with trying to find something to compete against Star Wars toys, and they slapped together some mini-comics to tell a story.
The mini-comics were not shown a whole lot of respect by the folks that made the 1983 cartoon.
The cartoon and comics were not remotely respected by the movie or the reboot 1990 cartoon.
Then a long-ass hiatus until the 2002 cartoon. And everything after the 1983 cartoon was basically a flop. He-Man had become a gay joke. You can enjoy it, fuck anyone that says it's wrong to enjoy it, but don't pretend it was anything more than a (very) faded star.
