>>115382580Well animated show in a highly creative world that doesn’t shy away from getting extremely morbid in instances(dead baby jokes, things getting eaten on screen etc), doesn’t rely on pop culture references for its humor, accurately depicts teenage girls without making them annoying, has an overall solid voice cast without any ear bleedingly high pitched characters, and the protagonist is a girl who actually has to work hard to learn how to fight and goes from a creepy alien nobody likes to earning the trust and respect of the villagers at a natural pace through episodes that only appear to be filler on the initial glance. The show doesn’t give plot elements in one episode and forgets them the next, it does not get held back by pointless relationship drama, and the villains are so multilayered that you can’t help but love them even though they’re terrible people at the same time.
There’s also a story building up that we currently don’t have a direction towards but there’s more in the surface than what we are told in the grand mystery of it all.
But beyond all of that, it’s a show that knows what it is. It understands that it isn’t the next flagship show for Disney. It knows that it will never have the hype or marketing of Owl House or brand recognition of Ducktales. And rather than through a bunch of kooky shit at the audience to okay catch up, it takes the silver grade position and uses it to craft a simple story with loveably charming characters and the trust that the audience will find it and enjoy it without being over sold or pandered to.
It doesn’t even do waifu bait despite having the characters for it, that’s how much it respects the audience
