Literally all Sony's fault, the movie series and most major decisions about it are still by and large decided by Sony, with some consultations and blessings from Feige and Marvel Studios, and borrowed characters from the MCU. Fuck Disney and the MCU but don't let Sony of the hook for this shit just because of production credit confusion, all these fuckups have the classic Sony seal of quality and bizarreness.
Don't let the two good Spider-Man movies they let Raimi make without meddling sway your opinion about their competence in handling the franchise, Sony is the worst thing to ever happen to Spider-Man outside comics. It's their lack of faith in the most popular and successful Marvel character due to their own awful track record that pushed them to tie Peter to Tony so heavily in hopes that his theatrical success will rub off on him.
