Anyway, episode was... OK, but kind of inconsequential? I guess I'm supposed to care about Rick-Beth interactions, but I kind of don't because it feels like mixing Rick with Rick Lite? Waters down Rick and undermines the existence of Beth. Jerry is a bonobo and Morty and Summer had a micro arc about getting high and being idiots. I guess there were a handful of good jokes in it?

Well, I guess it wasn't meta commentary on writing or satire of movie genres, so that's something going for it.

Beth came out of it pretty good. Her abandonment issues were justified since she was trying to protect her (supposed) half-siblings and she didn't do anything bad except be mean to Jerry, who deserved it.

The Toilet Episode - 5.5/10
The Heist Episode - 1.5/10
The Dragon Episode - 2/10

The Train Episode - 6.5/10
The Glorzo Episode - 6/10
The Vat of Acid Episode - 8/10
The Camping Episode - 7/10

I'd say that The Other 5 are doing better overall. Still not great, maybe Season 2 quality at best, but there's a glimpse of some of the older vibes, and episodes that have them are better off for it.

Fight seen was way underwhelming. Seeing Rick fight a god should've been real cool, a lot of big attacks, seeing how Rick deals with fighting an opponent with giant size and lighting powers.
But instead we got a shitty fistfight in a near-solid background. Compare to the President or Toxic Rick fight, where there were a lot of cool weapons and tactics.
Its amazing they made "Rick fights a god in space" boring.
Him getting saved by Summer and Morty and then betraying them immediately was funny though.

literally exactly. this is a comedy show, not a supernatural action thriller. rick gears up to fight an actual god, ascends into the stratosphere in a cool takeoff sequence, faces off with a being twenty times his size, and then they just punch each other like regular dudes having a normal fight. the audience laughs, dan harmon makes money.

go watch a different fucking show. legitimately. just go watch something else. rick and morty is not about what you want it to be about. it's in fact the exact opposite. if you want tropes and cliches to be played straight go fucking watch a different show instead of complaining that this one subverted one you wanted to see. trope subverting is a core tenet of a shitload of rick and morty's humor.

It's easy to tell which episodes are fucking shit - they're episodes that are basically live action sitcom plots with some sci-fi gag thrown in there for flavor. This is why every fucking Jerry episode is shit because it's about Jerry's fucking regular human problems but they add a Predator. Early episodes didn't have this problem because they were episodes that parodied sci-fi tropes, like the evil twins episode, like the parasite episode, like any episode that was any fucking good.

This episode was just family problems with a living planet, god, and new races being born; it was NOT actually about a living planet, god, or new races being born. It's the fucking same with the Mad Max episode, it wasn't about fucking post-apocalyptic motor-war it was about the parents fighting and Summer and Morty dealing with stupid shit. This is why the dragons episode was shit because it wasn't about dragons but about sexual deviancy/experimentation.

The only episode this entire fucking season that was actually about something other than sitcom horseshit you can get from anywhere in the past 50 years of prime-time television was the heist episode. That's one fucking episode out of 9 that has any real resemblance to the original formula.

Here's my shitting long rant and ratings for this season so far-

S04E01: Great start to the season, not anything amazing but the premise was fun. 6/10
S04E02: This episode actually made me feel for Rick, which is something Season 3 spent 10 episodes failing to do. 7/10
S04E03: I don't even like heist movies but having an entire episode be made to stroke the writers dick about his hatred for the genre made it even worse than the Vindicators (I say this as someone who actually defends Vindicators). Fuck this episode and its lol so random humor. 1/10
S04E04: I was alright with it on my first watch, but on my second watch I couldn't stand it for some reason. It is probably because the slut dragon joke does not work whatsoever when you are expecting it. The cat was lame too. 4/10
S04E05: Loved this episode. It felt like it would fit perfectly in Season 1 or 2 with how dumb its premise is yet how much they actually make it work. 8/10
S04E06: Interdenominational Cable done right again. The joke of their best plots getting deleted somehow actually worked in a way that didn't piss anyone off from what I've heard. 8/10
S04E07: This episode was alright, I don't really have an opinion on it. 5/10
S04E08: This episode felt ridiculously fun to watch. Genuinely laughed out loud while alone from watching a show for the first time in a while. Best episode in the season. 9/10
S04E09: Another episode that was just alright. I liked it better than the face-huggers episode though. 6/10

It was ok, but Summer laid it on WAY to thick with Jerry, seems like something personal a writer wanted to say because they resented going camping as a kid. She’s been a miserable sack of garbage all season too and could have been written out with no change. Beth continues her unhealthy thirst for Rick’s approval, kind of strange that she didn’t consider the clay men siblings but I guess that would jeopardize her position in Rick’s hierarchy. Actually, no. Not in this case. She saw Rick's BS and forced him to be responsible.

Case in point, when her father refused to do anything about the clay-men, she decided to act on her own. In the end, it's Rick who caved in and is the one who agrees to help out Beth. And especially the conclusion of the fight, where he is the one who consider what he did with Beth was important and was happy to have made something with her, not the other way around.

They aren't even very consistent characters from episode to episode. Half the time they are parodies of themselves, until the writers get bored and they become parodies of something completely unrelated (like summer being into drugs and morty into video games this episode)

The unhealthy aspect comes from priorities. For 6 days the worked on the claymen with no thought given to Jerry, Summer or Morty. Rick’s approval was more important to Beth than them and when she got a taste she wanted more.

the preview was clear it will be about how rick is a shitty enabler and literally the source of all their families bitterness. the season feels like its building up all the negative feelings it can explicitly for this. rick has a problem with being an annoying smart ass and demeaning control freak. he doesn't just pick on jerry just because jerry is lame. but because it helps him establish his patriarchial superiority. every time rick says jerry isn't needed he goes out of his way to spend time with beth who has actual issues with being needed by rick so that rick can keep beth away from jerry. every time jerry wants to do something simple like camp rick shits all over it because he wants his grand kids to think those kinds of things are dumb and only what rick enjoys and thinks matters. which was highlighted in the recent episode with summers annoying rick style rant.

jerry already has a bit of a complex because beth is a miniature kind of rick so he tends to do really dumb shit when he gets ostracized but in truth hes a decent good guy he just has problems with processing his inability to fight back against the kind of person rick is. I don't think jerry has the smarts or balls to really tell rick to shut the fuck up when he really needs to but he needs to, and beth picks up on that making her disrespect jerry but beth could do that because shes smart enough to. whats most important for their family is beth and jerry working together to sort of fix the big ass wedge between them that is rick playing on all their insecurities to keep them from being a team. the episode preview very clearly set this up.

The problem is, you are taking an expression with a negative connotation, then putting to it a definition that does not always imply that negative connotation (as is the situation, here), but then you use it to imply the negative connotation to a situation where it does not.

So that you can make fun of Beth. There is a bit of bad faith there.

You might think that the way I use that expression is wrong, but all I am doing is only use that expression with it's negative connotation, so that when used to describe a character it is clear it is used as a critic.

You play on it meaning so you can imply a negative aspect of the character of Beth without actually needing to justify it because you have use the non-negative meaning of the expression while acting like it's still implied.

“Likability” is subjective.
It’s really about who’s fun to watch. Shows like Seinfeld have a similar dynamic, where all the characters are assholes, but they’re fun to watch.
Personally, I think only Rick and Morty are fun to watch. The rest of the family is boring as shit

That episode was a fucking mess. It was like half the writers wanted to write a story about them growing together and the other half wanted to make a pessimistic story about people being miserable and never growing.
I know Rick and Morty are all about dark humor but at least decide to stick by it from the start and don't give any hope for any growth or care whatsoever.
The first two seasons of the show had heartwarming and sad moments alongside all the dark and mean spirited humor. It kept things interesting because you never knew when something was genuine and when it wasn't. But after S3, Rick and Morty is just dark humor, there's no room for anything remotely happy or endearing. And it's gotten to the point where I don't give a shit about anything that happens. Sure, a planet of Rick's children, can't wait for the characters to fuck it up and then leave like it never happened. Can't wait to see them get fucked up and brush it off for the 10th time. Oh boy, seeing Jerry get bullied and being treated like shit never gets old and annoying.
Not sure how this degradation is any better than what other cartoon sitcoms have gone through.

Not really. "Total Rickall," "Rest and Ricklaxation," and "The Vat of Acid Episode" are three of my favorites in the whole series. The show can also be at its best when it just doubles down on a fun sci-fi premise that lets the characters' personalities and quirks shine.

I won't deny that the lore episodes are tons of fun, but they're not the heart of the show. Rick and Morty ultimately is just a wacky sci-fi adult comedy. Anything goes as far as stories to tell, and lorefans only have themselves to blame when an episode that doesn't mention Evil Morty is enough to piss them off. The comedy, action, and characters are the focus.

I haven't liked any of the new episodes. Something isnt clicking. It's like they forgot about scifi again and are yet again making it about shitty forced family drama.

NONE of these episodes have been good. Even the ones a lot of people here seem to agree are good, were shit. Train and acid were as bad as the rock people. None of them were about scifi adventures, they were about the characters being shitty people, and theres also a lot of rick wank for some reason. It's just not fun. It's not fun to sit down for an episode and all they do is be negative, petty, shitty people who happen to be in a scifi setting. Seems like every episode one character will go into an angry rant about how much another character sucks. It's bad tv. I dont like this season it has been entirely shit. Whatever momentum they recovered from the previous shit season has completely died now because they're right back there in the shitty family drama

And quit acting like the main cast being full of cynics and jerks means that the show doesn't do sci-fi adventures. The show has always been about both. Why are you acting like anything is different? I also hate how often the writers shit on Jerry and pin every member of the family against him, but that doesn't pull from the enjoyment I get from all the creativity on display, from the story concepts to the visuals to some standout jokes. Season 4 has been great.

Nah season 3 is defintiely peak Mary Sue Rick who can do no wrong, is infallible and undefeatable. This season actually has him fucking up on occasion, but nothing like his fuckups in season 1 and 2.

Also it looks like they took his whole being drunk at all times thing off this season. He used to have conflict from being drunk all the time but I cannot think of a time when he actually was drunk this whole season.

The first time Jerry got focus in an episode is when he had trouble dealing with his parents' cuck fetish. And the second episode to heavily feature Jerry, his plot was about how he could only be successful in a simluation operating at minimum capacity and he was too dumb to even spot the glitches.

Wasn't that because Beth was a lot more on Jerry's side? Pretty much all of that changed between season 2 and season 3 with Rick going to prison. Despite Rick's bullshit, Beth still loves her father to death and she wasn't ok with Jerry being completely fine with casting Rick aside like he was nothing.
From there the entire family continues it's wild spiral into chaos as you have an incompetent retard and nihilistic asshole fighting over dominance over the rest of the family. And even though Jerry doesn't seem to bring anything at all to the family at face value, he's apparently still needed for whatever reason to keep the family from imploding, as it almost did prior to Beth and Jerry hooking back up in season 3.

I liked half of it, I like the idea of Rick being the parent to a whole civilisation of morons and engineering a way to process them into a useful civilisation, that was a fun idea that was interesting to watch. It just lost steam and got a thousand times less interesting when Jerry for some reason wanted to go to war with the main civilisation and then it also turned out that Rick wasn't the father and it was some "god" instead and then Rick almost gets killed by him (just seemed like kind of a lame thing to almost beat him) but then Morty and Summer save Rick with a spaceship. I feel that the initial premise was already interesting enough and didn't need so many things to be introduced and resolved halfway through, seeing Morty and Summer/Jerry having a dispute over camping was much more enjoyable than them finding a spaceship and having Jerry lead the useless guys against the useful ones.

I mostly enjoyed it, it was a nice family episode where we got o see how the "father" interacts with their kids, and how strained their relationship was, feels good. I'm very confused on why so many people seem to like jerry/see him as a victim and also assume that "you only dislike him because rick dislikes him" as if rick doesn't dislike him for valid reasons or that an audience member can't. I also don't really get people whos main goal when watching this series is to analyse how good it is based on how many jokes it can tell and not...well anything else really. 6.5/10 Fight scene was sort of weak tho and drawn out.

Might as well piss in the wind and post my thoughts, too. I think Rick and Morty is probably THE best show at illustrating just how terrifying the consequences can be when given devices or powers that people think are liberating and harmless, at least harmless to the ones using them. A lot of other shows will just do the lame cop out of the person that changes by either lying, self-improvement, or getting into some interest ostracizing themselves from their friends and family.

Rick and Morty goes a step further and shows how bad it can get. You never seen Rick getting himself into these situations, just the rest of the family. It's easy to believe that is IS in fact smart because it's been established that his idea of having a good time are drinking, doing drugs, and having parties. Self-destructive? Sure, but not the risk of apocalypse as Morty's follies have turned out. Rick can so easily make these devices but exercises a surprising amount of restraint. And that's cool because it shows that he's more crazy, but also that he chooses to be an asshole since he has sharp decision making and his life choices can't be blamed on benders. And it also highlights the toxic dependence the Smith family has for each other, too, since Rick DOES bail them out. The worst the situation, the more they're in his debt. Especially Morty.

That's why I like the Vat of Acid episode. Morty has high-roaded Rick a lot, but when left to his own device, literally, he uses it to act like a total asshole. All of those choices were his, and it's absolutely delicious to watch Rick serve Morty his just desserts, complete with the callback to the vat of fake acid. And I think that's Rick's dependence on the family - he needs attention to, he needs people to know that he's the one who's right. And to be fair, a lot of the time? He is. Even in episodes where he thinks he isn't, like the end of Mortynight Run.

On average I have to say that Solar Opposites is better. It never reach the same heights, but never ever the same lows.

The problem is that Rick as a character has been flanderized too far, and that Jerry-hate never was interesting, and that the issues with the daughter-father relation and the conflict between Jerry and Beth has become very stale.

Things can stay the same, but the issues need to be expressed in different ways. This feels just like the same thing repeated again and again.

Whoever of the writers that has a hang up on hating Jerry need to take care of his issues and not let it destroy the show.
