>>115182435You have to bear in mind that She-Ra was a HUGE step forward for female "superheroish" rep. When they were designing the show they had NOTHING to look at for inspiration. "Woman in a fantasy/sci-fi genre that's a hero and not just arm candy" wasn't a thing that existed.
Fuck, even look at Wonder Woman. Marston created Wonder Woman in the 1940s and yes, for a few years he came up with other women to be superheroes and supervillains in the book... and then when he left the book stopped doing that and she just fought generic as fuck mobsters, aliens, and giant monster animal shit.
Until She-Ra came along it was unheard of to see a lineup of a bunch of girls that were legit heroes and not just the girlfriends, or "a girl wearing Batman's costume, but with hair." Even Princess Leia was barely a few years old.
Mattel squandered what they had, but this picture here? This was a big fucking deal.
