The problem with the Merch in cartoons is that executives and higher ups are still grabbing into the idea that their target demographic needs to be children.
You know what would've worked great for this show? Have Vinyl figures for collectors, because not only are this barbie-esk toys ugly as fuck, kids don't buy toys nowadays, adults do.
More artistic-oriented limited edition toys would be great, like Japan's Neodroids, Overwatch's ultimate or artistic vinyls.
I would kill for a toy of Entrapta and Emily.

Let’s be honest, Catra and Adora’s sex life is probably going to be fucking terrible for a long time.
Catra is going to be an absolute pushover in bed. Utterly passive, terrified of doing or saying the wrong thing, leaps a mile whenever Adora touches her.
Adora on the other hand, she’s got a record on the show of pretending she’s far more competent at things than she really is, not admitting how dumb she is, while at the same time trying to brute force anything she can’t wrap her head around.

I think Catra coming to Shadow Weaver for help was a very powerful scene. After all the abuse and later betrayal, SW was basically the last person Catra should trust. Her mere mention used to trigger Catra into a planet-destroying rage. But she knew it's the only way to save ADORA and she goes to Shadow Weaver of all people and holds her hand, just damn. Such character growth.

I'd say the only part of Catra's redemption that I wasn't thrilled with was that glimmer seemed to be pretty quick to get over her mom ending up essentially-dead because Catra fucked up. But Catra did the equivalent of shoving Glimmer into the only lifeboat. Willingness to self-sacrifice to make up for past mistakes genuinely should go a long way. Not saying it didn't still feel rushed, just that the person with the most reason to still hate Catra is someone Catra subsequently saved while risking her own life... about the best "fix" possible without more eps to tell a story with.

It would most likely be a crossover with Smith's version, which is apparently going to be "we're remembering the broad strokes of the original but pretending it was serious not campy" (similar to G.I. Joe: Resolute). So it would be a serious and kind-of gritty He-Man meeting an alternate-universe version of his sister, that's got her shit together, saved the universe, and earned a happy ending. And it would probably involve silly shenanigans and possibly Christmas.

I can easily see that being weird-in-a-good-way.

Yeah, it's a real shame they did so much work breaking her down, bringing her down to the lowest point possible for several seasons in really well handled character work and then had to redeem her pretty much in just a handful of episodes and with everyone being so accepting and forgiving of her she was palling around with them like they were all old friends. It really needed at least an entire season of her struggling and making amends before you had another with the actual payoff.

That already happened though. Probably the only reason Catra was willing to go against her usual instincts on Prime's ship was because she was still reeling from Double Trouble's dressing down. The She'Ra threads are genuinely some of the most fun I've had on /co/.
The S1 ones were a clusterfuck that barely had any conversation, but Season 2 upwards it's been great, lot's of good people, talented artists and nice genuine conversations.
Specially with /co/ going (even more) downhill this year is nice to know this threads stay as comfy as always.

It was still well done despite being "rushed". If you really step back and take a look, more than half the season (9 out of 13 episodes, with smaller moments throughout the last 4) was devoted to her changing her ways. Considering how much they had to pack into this final season, that's a feat most shows couldn't pull off with double the amount of episodes.

The threads which actually talked about the show have been great, it really picked up after season 2.
I didn't care about this series when it was announced, it seemed like a mediocre nostalgia IP cash grab with woke points. Well, some of it still true, but it ended up as a legit enjoyable experience with some faults. I can see this being remember fondly when it becomes irrelevant as a talking point in the cultural war shit fest.

Catra, specifically, was great to watch because the show did a really good job of demonstrating not just that she was sad but particularly what was wrong with her. We understand clearly what her motivations are, what she wants, what prevents her from having it, why she wants it and how she operates. We can see how she’s trapped in a cycle of making the same bad choices over and over again and how she’s completely isolating herself and it’s done in such an organic way that seems true to what we know about Catra. It’s a good example of getting the audience inside the mind of somebody who’s completely ruining their own life and explaining their actions in a way that seems to almost make sense.
Also, when the show decided to characterize the main Horde characters as essentially being misfits who are only really on the side of evil because they never found a way to fit in anywhere else, so they’re just holding onto the only friendship they’ve known, that shit made them so much more endearing than watching the good guys.

I admit I was put off by the initial series pitch, it looked to be exactly what everybody thought, another brand name exploited to push and agenda.

But, I gave the show a shot and was pleasently surprised that it was very well written, had wonderful characters and was highly entertaining. I saw a lot of stuff in this show that I wish other shows would do, namely focus on the relationships between the characters, and the actions of the characters themselves driving the plot rather than just being pawns of a half-assed story. It even managed to have a satisfying conclusion, definitely a rarity these days.

All in all, a great series.

Scorpia is best girl.

I kept putting the show off and off until after S4 because I was convinced that I wouldn’t like it based on how it had been presented. I only eventually gave it a go after seeing it being compared favorably to Voltron and Dragon Prince.

I wish there had been time to have them interact after Catra returned, like have a heart to heart talk about their past and how Catra regrets it and talking about how Scorpia was the best friend ever and how Catra realizes how she treated her like shit, even while Scorpia insists that really her overbearing unquestioning affection wasn't what Catra needed and was never helpful, but with Scorpia being one of the chipped princesses we didn't get any of that

I'll be amazed if there's no "She-Ra: The Search For Spo...Angela" animated special or comic about them rescuing her. This is the first Netflix-Dreamworks "serious" show to end with a happy fanbase, there's very likely to be a green light to give us a little more.

Unlike with Voltron. You're not getting more of that. Some fuck-ups are too big to un-fuck-up.

Voltron's fandom being sub-human filth is one thing, but the reason the show there's no appetite for any follow up is because they Game of Thrones'd any sort of social capital the show might have had with their abysmal final season.

It's not the mediocre gay rep that did Voltron in, most suits wouldn't care, it's that they killed off arguably the female lead in a dumb self-sacrifice plot when they had just canonized a semi-popular ship with her in it. If Allura hadn't died but everything else (Shiro marrying a literal who, Lance becoming a farmer) still happened there would probably be considerably less salt.

It's actually pretty good, altho don't go in expecting an action-driven show, the focus is on characters, their struggles and interactions.
S1 is slow and drags a little bit, but it really peaks on S2 and each season gets better.
Worth watching if you like those kinda shows, great characters, amazing voice acting, good story, the weakest part is the animation, and it also gets better after S1.

Which I find no fault with), but that doesn't change the fact that that sort of thing is real, and there's room for that to be depicted in media as well. Even if it makes you uncomfortable.

Yes, but nobody IN THE STORY has to give a fuck about the characters being gay. Just because you have a gay character doesn't mean that at some point in the show, they have to be persecuted or deal with haters. That's like saying if your show has Jewish characters someone HAS to make fun of them for being Jews, or they have to deal with white supremacists or something.

Technically 4 seasons. But yeah, I had forgotten when the first season came out and was surprised it was late 2018 and not 2017. But didn't it use to be like that? At least wiht long running shows, it's just that Disney/Cartoon Network have fucked up the way stuff is released and it has changed viewer's expectations.

Anyway yeah, I guess I just found it refreshing because in my experience it seems every show with gay characters feels the need to at some point address their gayness, usually with some other character having a problem with it like a parent or friend. I liked that that simply didn't happen this time, people were there being gay and the story being told never made any kind of issue of it.

I was just comparing this show with Adventure Time. The first four seasons of AT were 26 11-minute episodes each, so equivalent to She-Ra's 13 22-minute seasons. The first four seasons of AT were aired over a space of about two and a half years, whereas She-Ra aired a comparable amount of programming over one and a half years. Though of course AT was getting regular weekly releases most of the time instead of having whole seasons dumped at once.

If you're already doing something as unrealistic as sci-fi/fantasy, it's not surprising that there's very little desire to have homophobia or realistic racism show up. If there's dragons and space-ships, why deal with the shittiest dregs of the real world if you don't want to? You CAN, and can make a good story of it... but you certainly can choose to ignore that shit. Its a fantasy after all.
