On top of that there’s the problem with the story. I hate to harp on this point but the albatross on the neck of this show is the lack of an engaging story. Steven Universe had a story, so does Amphibia, etc. Whats the story? Is this Luz’s journey to becoming the best witch? Defeating the big baddies in the first episode? And if the show is about Luz becoming the best of the best of all the witches, then I’m sorry that is kind of self-indulgent. The whole show feels self indulgent, it’s basically a little girl’s magical fantasy come to life with no conflicts whatsoever. It’s basically LWA but done badly. What I liked about LWA is Ako actually wants to be a witch; she can’t shut up about it, the 1st ep beginning with her being inspired by a magic show she saw. When the hell was it implied that Luz ever wanted to be a witch? Was it when she narrated her dumb witch book report? Also unlike Luz, Ako goes through plenty of problems, she’s an extremely flawed character. Some call her an idiot. But we’ve all been there. Trying to succeed at something and not really getting it. She actually tries to learn and doesn’t waste her time unlike the hispanic homo sapien girl.
Also, why the magical school? A show about Eda, King and Luz would have been fine. If you don’t want to have long engaging story that’s fine. Make it like Adventure Time or Rick and Morty and just have it be about going on adventures.
