>>114263967I guess not liking this movie is the unpopular opinion. I remember enjoying it in theaters but recently rewatched it to discover I didn't like as much as the first time.
Don't get me wrong. The story of two brothers bonding and growing to respect/care for each other is sweet and the whole modern day magic thing was a neat idea but there's just something about the movie that felt unfulfilling or just off to me. I can't quite pinpoint why though. I think it has something to do with feeling like Barley should have gotten more out of everything. Perhaps that's saying a bit much since he did get
closure with his dad. But he's spent his life helping raise Ian, spent years obsessing and studying magic but can't even use it while Ian just happens to be gifted, and even
sacrificed Guinevere. And in the end, he just seemed to fade back in the background while Ian walked away with confidence, growing popularity at school, and became a modern day mage.
