Pointless is subjective. I felt like it did a good job addressing the emotional baggage Steven and others carried from the OG show.
"Chad Steven" is still too close to regular Steven to be a good representation of him losing all control, I feel. I can't see "chad steven" getting into a physical fight with the other crystal gems. The monster looked stupid, but I agree with the concept.
I don't understand the "lack of finality" complaint. The season was built around Steven's inability to confront his past demons and move on with his life. By the end he does both of these things. >Even Stevens final decision to leave is open ended.
That's kind of the point. The world is his oyster now. He's let go of his need to be the hero, and is now free to explore the world as a human being. Where exactly he ends up isn't important.>>114156284>As for Jasper, if she didn’t matter in the story, why the fuck would they give her 2 episodes
She was used as a parallel to Steven, and to expose his hypocrisy. He spends the first episode trying to reason with Jasper that she should move on with her life. By the second episode we see that Steven is actually no better, ironically going to learn from her. And there is no better character than Jasper to exacerbate Steven's feelings of worthlessness and self-destructive behaviour.
Basically she served as a tragic example of what happens when you can't let go of the past. I hope she's able to move on in the future, but that wasn't needed to fulfill her role in this story.
