I don't think that they were trying to create a rape apologist I think they were trying to convey how fucked up being born with super powers would fuck up Peter's head. He spends most of the first run homeless, on drugs, and he kills or hurts almost everyone near him either directly or indirectly but I still agree with major palmer at the end of the day that between 2 evils the one who thinks they are jesus is usually worse.
