None really had the soul, that thing that made Spider-Man universe special, that made that environment real and different from what DC did and still does, films never had that vibe from comics, none had Harry, Gwen, Mary Jane and Peter in the same film with a perfect cast
And none of these 37 films had characters like Black Cat and Kraven and bad quality animations do not help his popularity
Compare the garbage of the current Spider-Man animated series with Kimetsu no Yaiba, One Punch Man or Boku no Hero

... The next movie should play up and even revel in how much of a good boy Clark is. Borderline comedy. Or perhaps just play it straight and stop trying to make Superman deep. probably missing an important point here. It took them a decade to make spider-man even more shit than usual. The PS4 game salvaged him but look at the state of his comics or movies.
Superman was always gone to shit by DC's handling but he's plateaued, the DCEU movies just confirmed what everyone already assumed of superman, even if they were wrong. Meanwhile Spidey had no way to go but down because of the shit way marvel and disney are handling him. So no surprise here.

He's been a leading man on TV since the 1950s. Live action mostly, plus some cartoons. His biggest dry spell on TV was when the movies were going in the late 70s and early 80s. He was still a Super Friend even then, just no solo show until the John Byrne era inspired show from Ruby-Spears. By then Superboy was also airing in first run syndication. Lois & Clark ran for four more years then a decade of Smallville. He's got a new show coming in the fall, which was clearly intended to to a sequel to Smallville until they couldn't sign Welling.

Dean Cain was the perfect Clark Kent. Coupled with Teri Hatcher's comic timing, L&C is still a fun show to watch, even with the cheesiness of the show. That's just part of the charm.

Marvel spent more money and movies hyping Carol than DC did Diana. So unfortunately Carol overtook her as the strong warrior woman to idolize for young women. Especially because Diana is all about loving man's world for what it is and getting banged by Steve Trevor. Carol is sexually attracted to violence and probably Valkyrie soon enough.

I like Supes a lot but this happening is 110% all Marvel's fault. They're trying to run damage control now but it's a way bigger job than it ever really needed to be. If they hadn't fucked with him in irreparable ways for 10+ years this would have never happened.

You have it backwards. Theres a lot of Superman clones because Superman is THE archetypical superhero. If you ask someone to draw a generic superhero, 9 times out of 10 it'll be a buff dude in a cape. Superman is just that ingrained in pop culture, and he was popular before his '77 movie. He's like The Beatles of superheroes.

Not exactly a good indicator nowadays, especially since an entire generation grew up with the Avengers as the most popular superhero team for a decade. People who don't read comics but consume other media related to them are the ones that carry on that cultural significance to a more far-reaching scale, not comic readers, and it's been that way for generations. It happened with Superman, it happened with Batman, it happened with Spider-Man, it happened with the X-Men, and it's happening/happened with the Avengers.

I'm a DC guy admittedly, but I seriously didn't realize that Captain America had a solo run after Ta-Nashi Coates left, but I checked and he's selling around 25k, which is absolutely awful
Same with Iron Man, I haven't heard about what Iron Man is up to in the comics, but he's 28k
WW is around 26k
Aquaman is 19k
Captain Marvel is 30k
Black Panther is 14k

And i'm lumping all of the X-men together, and X-men have been doing gangbusters since Hickman took over

Still gonna need a sample size, as well as the characteristics of those that were polled. I've worked with a lot of kids and younger adults when helping with programming tutoring, and I can safely say that if they weren't Avengers fans, they were Spider-Man or Batman fans.

Marvel unapologetically made Cap wholesome and pure, contrasting him with a morally ambiguous world and his less straight-laced colleagues. And people LOVE MCU Cap.

WB decided they have to make Superman sullen and conflicted in order to make him "relevant" and "modern," and nobody bought it.

Just make the characters what they are. You already have Batman for the bleak stuff. How are Batman and Superman supposed to be interesting together when they are both the same character? When you have a universe of heroes to play with, diversity is a strength, and there's no reason not to have it populated by both boyscouts and antiheroes.

The problem is, producers and execs don't know or care about comics. What they saw was "Batman made us money. We finally got a superhero movie that's doing what we paid all this cash for! The issue with Superman is that (pre Bendis) Post Crisis Superman is a near perfect modernization of the character but all creatives in Hollywood just don't know that. Instead every Superman movie has become a response to 1978- either an emulation of it (Returns) or a rejection of it (Snyder.)
Yes, Identity Crisis is garbage, but it has some good individual moments like pic related.
