The show went right into the garbage can during 3rd and 4th specially because they didn't know what to do with their MC and deuteragonist
They had issues forcing a relationship between MC and best friend but at the same time trying to make it look like a wholesome relationship... since it was forced and everyone knew it, they said: Fuck it! let's delete the little thing that makes it forced and then call it "true love since episode 1". Almost everyone hated that... because instead of solving the problem, they just delete it inshow and act like it never happened.
Only good villain was killed in the movie, and never got a real replacement that made the hype go high in expectations.
The only posible villain was whitewashed and turned into the cinnamon roll that fight the forces of Bigotry.
Other characters went full retard mode so that MC can shine as if she had somehow matured and is the voice of reason and development... which wasn't the case.
Finally, they made the MC accuse that Magic (the essence of the show) is the responsible of all bad things for mewmans, she commits a magic genocide with some few exceptions cause author and her crew after the end understood she fucked up.
The show wasn't that bad... but it shot itself too many times in the feet
