This is literally one of the worst things I've ever heard. Why was this greenlit for television. It should be illegal to have a song this bad on television. It actually gives me a headache just trying to listen to this shit. I looked at the comments in some related vids and everyone is acting like this song is perfectly fine? Am I going insane?

I've listened to it many times and it hasn't gotten better. There isn't even a melody to it she's just randomly jumping all over the place with her pacing and pitch.

Yeah. I like the audio version I have. I'm a base singer so dropping Yellows notes an octave makes it the perfect range for me. Some of the notes get real low.

The actress(who is a broadway singer) manages to sell it despite the song itself being poorly written like most SU songs. The soundtrack version is also better.

People mainly just like SU songs because they usually drive plot developments though, they're "hype moments" like the flash animations in Homestuck were back in the day.

tbqh post S3 is where the majority of my favorite episodes are from. S4, for all its faults, has two of the best arcs in the show (one being the best) and a handful of invidually great episodes like Mindful Education and Storm in the Room. S5 has maybe two bad episodes are the rest range from decent to great. Only thing it lacks is good pacing, which makes sense when you consider they didn't even know whether they'd be renewed or not until like Diamond Days itself.

I like SU's songs for its simplicity, though Rebecca has a habit of overusing repetition to reinforce themes. It makes the songs catchy but it also holds them back in a way.

thats exactly why I'm not a big fan of any SU song after season 2. I prefer songs when they can be enjoyed with or without context. If they only work on the scene they are played, I don't care for it. Disney has a great track record of making their plot-relevant songs have lyrics and tunes that can be enjoyed even without seeing the movie. SU stopped doing that and focused entirely on making these songs big moments for the characters in specific scenes.
Part of why I'm not crazy for "Other Friends". SO much about that song is exclusive to the movie. If I show it to a friend of mine who has never heard about SU they might like it but they will not understand the lyrics or get the point of the song.

Sorry mate but I gotta disagree. The Zoo arc is decent but everything else about both S4 and S5 was weak as fuck for me. Every character was turned into tools for developing Steven and lost relevancy, plot points were rushed as hell, everyone acted like an idiot, every new gem introduced was lame, etc. There where a couple of neat moments here and there but so much of what I loved from the series was ruined in those last two seasons, and the movie was just a reminder of how little I cared about the show anymore.
I'm only watching Future because I've watched the rest of this show, so no harm in sticking by for the last 10 episodes.

My problem with Other Friends is largely how weak the lyrics were. A song that bouncy and upbeat coming from that character should have been loaded with clever lines, but the "loser of the game you didn't know you playing" bit and the following stuff was the only time it really did (and it was proceeded by the awkward "Who am I? Who am I? What are you even saying?"). Instead, the song was content to keep repeating the chorus, even though it wasn't particularly good. Like seriously, what's this lazy shit?:

Yeah, I only really enjoyed like 10 seconds of that song, the whole "that's right I heard the story over and over again". I don't really care about everything else about that song. I can't really say I enjoy the song if I only like 10% of it.

SU's songs are one of those things that cartoon fags love because there's nothing else like it on TV right now, and the people who made it are on the record as people who are passionate about musicals and making songs in general.

For anyone who has even a tertiary knowledge about music, though, they're embarrassingly bad. Their instrumental stuff is actually pretty okay, but also a bit minimal and lazy. You cant expect much from something meant to be background noise. But everything with lyrics in it? It's absolutely lousy. You can tell it's basically just a twee Hollywood type playing at being a songwriter, rather than someone who knows what they're doing. They're melodramatic, which is fine, but they over explain themselves to a fault in what's a painfully transparent attempt to come off as more profound than it actually is, but it's sophomoric, and it's repetitive. It's honestly a little pretentious.
