claremont wrote them for like 2 decades consistently, 90s x-men #1 is still the biggest selling comic ever. they were astronomical in cross-over appeal.
F4 is definitely B-list or lower, same for avengers. now? no, of course not, avengers is certainly A-list, shows what 10 years of movies can do
