>>113007875Nah, comedy is death to tension and especially to horror. You have these comedy horrors like Cabin in the Woods, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, and they don't come off as horror movies but just dark comedies, the horror is lost.
Once shit hits the fan, the humor should similarly pretty much go out the window. The Omen 1978 didn't need comedic relief, nor did The Exorcist, or Alien after chestburster, 1968 Night of the Living Dead, The Shining, it goes on.
And if you only think in terms of anything dark or horrific as edgy, of course people then don't care for any of it and just want to pile on the slapstick and the humor which just kills the tension, mood, atmosphere and leaves whatever it was totally toothless. If I'm laughing, I'm not really scared then.
