As someone who has seen every episode, it’s often mediocre, fleetingly good, rarely great. The entire tempo of the show is different now, though I think the directors have gotten over those early HD seasons when they didn’t know how to use the animation.

honestly I found the show to still be relatively watchable up through around Season 15, and there's a couple decent episodes in seasons 16, 17, and 18*(and 18 isn't the worst place to finish up since it's the season right before The Movie)

Season 19 onward is when things get truly dire(being the season that the episode That 90's Show happened)

*though Season 18 also has what's probably the single worst episode of the series, Boys of Bummer

At its worst it's probably worse than THAT BAD (as in, if you haven't watched it sometimes it does stuff that's worse than you're probably expecting). Most of the time it's probably just generically bad more than anything, though.

Simpson's 'Golden Age' is from Season 3 to the first episode of Season 9.
Season 2 is worth watching though, as it's very different than the rest of the show, with the subjects they tackle, and how rundown Springfield is at the time.

Season 12 to 18 are near unwatchable.
Season 20 is surprisingly good, and after that I stopped watching.

I do recommend watching 'Christmases of Future's Past' as the final episode, once you're ready to leave the Simpson's forever.

have you really exhausted all possible venues of entertainment to the point where you would actually enjoy zombie simpsons?

the only valid excuse I can think of are third worlders with zero english language skills who only have locally re-dubbed simpsons or the trash fire that is their own country's entertainment (like the russian version of married with children) and even then there are plenty of means of watching foreign shows subtitled so you'd have to be too lazy to read too.

I mean, if you were doing it all by hand, sure, but I feel like most of the process could be automated. Speech recognition used to isolate a specific characters lines in a show, make a database of words, sort them by tone/inflection, and write a speech synthesizer using all that to produce a raw vocal track that could be tweaked as needed into a finished product.

Season 16 for me. That's the season when the original Mexican God tier dub actors were replaced by soulless imitators. Humberto Vélez as Homero made the whole show bearable even tho it's quality was in a clear decline, when they replaced him and the rest of the main cast the show just officially became a shadow of itself and no one in Latin America watches it anymore.

Burns and Smithers where my favorite characters in season 1-8, when the show was consistently good. Now Burns is just a source of old man jokes, and Smithers is a drag queen. All subtlety is gone, and everything about the characters that was enticing (i.e., Burns' ruthlessness and Smithers' pathetic masochism) is gone.

The celeb cameos are terrible, the responses to memes that have come been and gone already, and the near complete contempt for the show's past just add up to a recipe of shit.

Golden age I used to laugh multiple times an episode. Then it was a couple of times an episode. From I think about 11 onwards once an episode, if that, and eventually I just stopped laughing. Luckily by then it was the 10s, so nobody noticed.

The stale meme references are especially frustrating to watch. It's like, you know what joke they're going to make and you already know it's not going to be funny but you're powerless to stop it as you watch it unfold like an elderly man collapsing from cardiac arrest. It goes beyond being embarrassing or clingey to straight-up pissing me off. You just want to push the writers aside and carefully explain to them why the joke doesn't work.
