Just finished books 1 and 2. I know if they get more seasons they'll probably be focusing on new characters, but I desperately want to see more with these two.

I want to see Lake adjusting to life off the train! Would she live with Jesse? Go to school? Would she have to disguise herself so she doesn't get abducted by the FBI?

I never got in on the first wave of speculation because I didn't watch book 1 til this week so here's some stuff

If so many people are always being abducted by this train, why isn't its existence at least an urban legend?

Do people who've returned from the train find each other online? Are there post-train support groups?

Or does the train leave some kind of subconscious suggestion that influences people to keep it a secret?

Have other denizens escaped from the train before? Is that where cryptid stories come from?

Was MT only unable to walk farther out into the wasteland because she's a denizen, or does that apply to passengers too?

What are those cockroach monsters? What actually happens if they finish sucking out your soul/lifeforce/whatever?

Was the train originally meant to help people with soul-searching stuff(in which case why did they make it so easy to fall off) or was it originally built for a different purpose?

Here's something i've wanted to get out there for a bit.

So, In the wasteland episode, the mirror cop tells Lake that the entire "mirror car" stuff, like the living reflections and the mirror police were just creations of the train, and nothing further. They don't have a place in the "real world"

However, in the end of the first season, we very clearly see that Tulip doesn't have a reflection anymore. Turns out reflections do have a place, oddly enough.

If reflections and any effects they undergo are a product of the train, then why are they present in the real world?
Is the world we know as "the real world" also product of the train? With all the memories and crap they harvest from people, it's not exactly impossible to create a universe that's a replica of the Earth. (Don't really know why they'd do that, but still. It's a possibility.)

A lot of this is so confusing. I'm definitely overthinking this but I've wanted to put it into words.

They've said comics are a possibility. Personally I'd love if they got a few more seasons then had all the seasons protagonists come together for a final season to save the train.

My theory is that the entire Universe runs on universal source code, and the Train is like mod for it. The Train accesses the code for passenger's reflection and uses it to make the mirror clone. Normally, the Train would just give it back to the passenger, but in Tulip's case that never happened.

I always took it as Mirror World is a real place, but the Chrome Car is a creation of the train. Since she emerged from the Chrome Car, she is technically a product of the train.

I liked this (pic) theory in the last thread. I think the mirror thing isn't literally true on regular earth, but stuff that happens in the train presumably sticks with you even after you've left (if someone lost a leg on the train I wouldn't expect them to have it back when they got off).

So with the Train's weird reality-warping ability, while Tulip was in the Chrome Car the whole mirror world story BECAME real for her in that moment, and then losing her reflection was something she carried through with her. Like if a wizard had used magic to disintegrate someone's leg, it wouldn't come back once they left the train just because magic isn't real.

This would also imply that at least a bit of the Train's reality-warping can leak out into the "real" world, which I like very much and want to see more of.

Also if all of Lake's memories as a reflection are false memories created by the train and she never existed before that moment, that would actually be a really interesting thing for the show to cover. If someone's entire past is actually an implanted memory... does that actually change much of anything? It's still informed their personality and motivations all this time, and those aren't just going to instantly change.

In Episode 9 One-One said that the Tape Car is the only car where the universe is projected outside, so I think that it applies to passengers too because the limitation of the universe projector.

It's called ghoms, we see that Amelia can use those guns to transform denizens like Atticus into one. In my theory, those monsters are denizens that does too much trouble for passengers and then transformes by the conductor, and they can transform them into one of them if they finish sucking your soul.

This seems so counterproductive for helping people self-actualize and whatever. That along with the train (and the wasteland especially) being so dangerous really makes me think it was originally built with a different purpose in mind, and one-one just took it over and haphazardly repurposed it at some point in the distant past. Amelia was just continuing the tradition, really.

From what we see with MT, I don’t believe the mirror people care about their prime or their “mirror family”. It seems like being a reflection is just an obligation that they are cursed to endure. There is A LOT of shitty logic when it comes to the chrome car’s rules. Personally I don’t believe that there is a reflection of tulips parents, and only people who exist in the car have a sentient reflection. When the sentient reflections are created they give them false memories based upon the primes memories.

The only thing that contradicts my theory is the fact that tulip doesn’t have a reflection in the book 1 finale.

Part of why I like the "the train makes the sentient reflections and implants memories into them" is definitely that it helps with a lot of the logic holes. I don't have to wonder about what mirror world society is like if it's just a story the train brought into reality to teach a lesson and then move on.

I really didn't like Lake ending up in the real world because now I'm thinking how everything works, but I did like how she solved the "problem" of not having a number and I like the road they're going with the series. Book 1 seemed disappointing but now that I know that these stories aren't disconnected from each other I'm really enjoying it with the mentality that things will get expanded upon.

I'm re-watching them now and just noticed that in the kaiju car at the start of the short the mirror is reflective, but at the last scene of the short it has been spray painted black.

Tulip essentially ripped off/out a chunk of mirror world that contained her reflection by pressing/fusing her army knife to it and then pulling really hard. That or beat the chrome system by having it swap places with itself into the prime world via the train car voodoo. The train hosts a sufficient level of technology to project and bridge realities. My assumption is that the mirror world always existed parallel to ours but the train allowed a crossing point, and now that Lake has escaped Tulip won't be getting her reflection back.

If you think about it the little Swiss army knife mirror is the thing keeping Lake from vanishing once she left the cart since still need to be in contact with a reflective surface to exist in the real world.

Pretty sure that mirror is just reflective metal. So even if the red plastic part breaks Lake will still be fused to the metal surface. I doubt it would be healthy to break it any more than that, but at that point what kind of trouble is she even getting in to?

In Book One, when Amelia tells Tulip that she's been "interfering with her plans", what exactly did she mean? What plans? She just wanted a car with Alrick in it. Was it to keep One-One away from the Engine?

Yeah, Amelia really didn't work for me much as a character, I feel like they kept her under wraps until a little bit too late and weren't quite able to fully develop her. For instance, why was she trying to keep Tulip from turning Atticus back to normal? Why not make a deal-- she'll turn him back if Tulip will take one-one far away from the engine room or something. Didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

I think Swiss army knives are typically just stainless steel with chrome plating. Or a stainless steel alloy that includes chrome, which is very corrosion resistant. So in a sense, yes, but it's likely she's whatever the other denizens are (pure magic chrome) that is fused to the knifepiece.

I strongly suspect we won't see characters who successfully left the train returning in subsequent seasons. The only exception might be some big final season crossover event, like something out of Doctor Who, where passengers from past stories come together to save the train from some major existential threat.

So did Amelia have any interaction at all with the Apex or have they just gone full Children of the Corn/Lord of the Flies based on the fact that "The Conductor is now a ball, RIOT!"

A lot of what Grace says, aside from being full on cult leader shit, seems to have no actual connection to Amelia or her agenda, but for some reason on my first watchthrough of season 2 I pulled an OtGW and immediately rewatched season 2 from the beginning the second it was finished I just assumed Amelia was somehow orchestrating them.

During Amelia's time as conductor passengers weren't informed of the situation. I think the likely scenario was that Grace had either directly seen Amelia in her mech or at least heard of her through others on her travels through the train. I think part of the charm is thinking about what happens later yourself, making the adventures on your head.
Realistically speaking, there is no way this story ends without Lake ending on Area 51 subjected to horrible experiments. But since we don't see it, we can get a little silly and assume she can live evading an incident like that. Maybe Jesse's mom agrees to let her live with them, maybe she doesn’t and Jesse has to hide her on the basement, etc.
And depending on how you see them, you can picture them ending as friends or lovers. I think its fine as it is.

It seems to be some sort of ritualistic motion that, on the memetic level, marks a person as belonging to the group. But on a more practical level, its meaning remains to be seen. I think the writers hinted that the american government knows about the train to some extent. She might be defended by the local Cosay community and live relatively peacefully, even easier if Jesse's family has a relationship with stewards of tribal land. Since she doesn't seem to require food or water other than direct involvement with the police she should be fine. In the event she is discovered Jesse negotiates for her citizenship via information on the train and MiB or whatever keeps her marriage and eventual impregnation confidential.

On the one hand, Nega-Tulip could make for an interesting antagonist, with the added benefit of naturally leading into a Tulipalooza crossover event where PT and MT are dragged back to The Train and have to work together to overcome NT who is a dark reflection of both of them.

On the other hand, as much as I like the characters I think the most important thing Infinity Train needs to do to remain solvent as a long-running series is continue introducing new characters, new plotlines, new mysteries etc. Cameos and recurring side characters like One-One and The Cat are fine, but it can't just indefinitely keep going back to Tulip stuff.

This kind of series is exactly why I like the concept of shows being pre-planned, with as little episodes required to tell the story. It's so tight with the execution that you're not left bored. I wish more shows were like this instead of nonsensical shit with no consistency like The Loud House or Steven Universe (a show that tries this format of continuity but fails really fucking hard by having so much filler and retcons that you can't care by the end).

Most acclaimed show of the last decade, easily, so... going to have to disagree with you. Also, retcons my ass, there was stuff in season 1 that paid of in season 5.

Don't get me wrong, I love IT too. I'd argue that both shows show the importance of making a plan before starting. IT went the route of making each season a mini-story with some concepts that can carry over to the next season if it gets renewed. Smart approach.

I'd like to see the next protagonist be someone who's trauma turns out to inadvertently be the result of the train's interference in our world. Like its learned that their issues largely stem from being abandoned by a parent or loved one only for it to turn out that person from their life ended up on the train and wasn't able to get their number before meeting an untimely end.

It'd be a nice bittersweet story and a good setup for examining some of the unintended consequences and impacts of the train's existence and mission.

There's plenty of potential problems that could crop up if the writers wanted to stick with them. I doubt the writers want to, and I think moving on is the correct choice, but for instance:

Again, moving on to new characters is probably the right choice for the health of the show, and it keeps its main gimmick (the train) strongly centered, but it's silly to think there's nowhere they can still go with Lake and Jesse (and Tulip's!) stories from where they left off.

HBO and CN are both owned by WarnerMedia, which I think has been taking steps to merge operations between them, at least partially. HBO Max is gonna be $15/month iirc, and I think is where basically all their animation is going to live.

They've mentioned they want to start churning out a LOT more original content than they have in the past in order to compete better with Netflix and Disney+, so if the quality doesn't wind up taking a nosedive it could end up being a good thing. Cool new stuff instead of just more TT Go forever.

Or could just be another so-so, expensive subscription service to add to the pile of things to not pay for and pirate instead

Think back to the early days of Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, they basically gave everyone with an interesting pitch their own live-action crew/animation team and free reign to do basically whatever they wanted... and out of that we got some of the most memorable cartoons of the last 30 years.

I liked book 2, but I did a triple-take at how MT left the train, because doing the exact same thing before failed when Jesse left the first time. Why didn't it work the first time? They were holding hands then, too, so she should have been reflecting his number and been able to leave. The only thing that changes between both attempts is that the conductor verbally agrees it should work, but I'm not sure why that would change anything.

It's because it was Jesse's door specifically. What if a passenger gets to 0 and they have a friend with them who has a 30? The train makes each door only accept one person. The next door was two doors fused.

Reflecting Jesse's number was basically what it took to convince one-one to summon a door for MT, I think. The train's normal systems wouldn't have done that on their own, it worked cause she'd gotten the conductor's attention and it gave him an out from the logic loop, which he took.

You know, I could see this as being a bit offensive. They basically offered no choices besides women's clothing because why? Fashion shows are for girls? Okay so do people on the train age at all? If they do, why isn't Mirror Tulip aging (I'd imagine a year or two gap between the first and second season)? Mirror figures age with their fleshy counterparts when they're still a reflection so is she forever stuck as that or will she grow old eventually? Does Lake also have organs and such like a normal person? She is the reflection of a normal person so I'd imagine she would be like them in every regard. If so, that will explain how Jesse and Tulip could carry her since she's not entirely a solid mass of metal.

Regarding this point, even if she weren't entirely solid, depending on exactly what metal she's made of, the numbers would suggest she'd weight 500+lbs. So something else must be going on.

Yeah but Tulip, a 13yo, was able to lift her straight up from the floor to above her head and hold her for a good 3 seconds. She can't be more than 200lbs, and even with that mass she'd be able to make dents in the floor with enough velocity.

Just finished Book 2. Holy shit that was so much better than Book 1 it's ridiculous. Book 1 was maybe a 4 or 5 out of 10 but this was a 9 or 10 easy, goddamn.

Obviously the plot was much better too, but I think the main thing that elevated this so high was the main cast. M.T. and Jesse were perfect characters with perfect chemistry while Alan Dracula was sometimes funny but mostly unobtrusive. Compare that to Tulip who was alright but bland, and then the two annoying overbearing failed comic reliefs of Atticus and One-One.

Yeah I feel exactly the same way. The pacing was better and having an actual meaningful emotional relationship between the protagonists went a long way. And yeah as much as I hate to say it, I think Jesse and MT (especially MT) are both way more interesting and memorable than Tulip, with much more consistent characterization and more visible, believable growth.

The Train isn't something that can be argued with or blamed or held responsible for things - it's more like a force of nature. It'd be like swearing revenge on a hurricane because it killed your dog.

I'm not saying you wouldn't have to set it up right for it to work. You'd have to show that the dad didn't get picked up over a fucking Sad Lizard Story, but rather was genuinely struggling with his demons. Maybe that fateful night when he has that fight with the protagonist he loses his temper and strikes them, and that terrible moment where he loses control is what drives him stumbling out into the night. The Train shows up and offers him a chance to become a better person, but through no fault of either his own or The Train, an accident happens that takes his life or maybe he simply dies of an illness before he can fix his problems enough to earn his exit.

Neither The Train nor One-One are omnipotent in their power or malevolent in their intent. They want to help people, but they're not gods, they can't be in all cars at all times or stop every unfortunate thing from happening.

How many episodes do Detective Conan and Dr. Who have? It's not an American thing, people in general are drawn to familiar things. You can't really conceptualize something brand new that you haven't seen before, so sequels and spinoffs are a lot more mentally available. I think in principle anything considered the property of the train stays on the train. You'll notice the cuffs slipped off Lake when she went through the portal. When I watched the pilot and first episode for this, I dropped it hard and had no intention of watching the rest of it. Tulip was annoying, I was not a fan of one/one's character, and while the train stuff was neat, I didn't feel it was enough to carry the plot otherwise. When I saw book 2 had different characters, I decided to actually watch the whole thing and I'm really glad that I did because I've come to love the show.

The train ostensibly appears to anyone who is in a moment of deep personal crisis or at a major crossroads in their life which can't be easily overcome, confronted, or solved without the train's help (people who earn their exists have generally matured emotionally enough to be prepared to deal with future problems on their own).
