Annie has extremely low self-confidence and shows signs of narcicism throughout the comic. Her only friend for a long time was Kat, who was the only peer even willing to talk to her for her first years in school and the first proper friend she ever had.
BOOM, second Annie comes along.
Second Annie is much better at validating her and hiding her insecurities and fuelling her narcicism.
Kat isn't needed anymore. Second Annie is way better at validating her.
Turns out, Annie's friendship with Kat was extremely egoistical to an unhealthy degree.
This has been foreshadowed plenty of times.
Annie copied Kat's work. When Zimmy looked at Annie's dreams, Kat asked if she was in them. She wasn't. When Kat went rugmuncher, Annie was concerned about Paz pushing her out of Kat's life before anything else, so much so that she threw one of her tism fits and ran away.
Sure, maybe all of it is fuelled by her insecurities and tisms, but that doesn't mean that it excuses her current behavior.
