>>112473433I enjoyed it. Keep in mind, I went in with low expectations and made sure to turn my brain off. So if you take it for what it is, a silly little tidbit of catharsis, it's a lot less disappointing than if you compare it to genuinely awe-inspiring animation.
Not only that, but unlike the new shield isekai I didn't once wonder how something could be possible within the show's own fiction. Everything was explained, consistent, and didn't obviously conflict with the setting. They even beat skeletor exactly how everyone thought they would, while shittier shows would've actually left you wondering why they didn't use his name lightning against him.
They also destroyed the staff in a practical and effective way, with Lionbro using little more than common sense to expand his bitch breaking blade to appropriate proportions. It was brilliant, but also so stupid, obvious and cheesy even a moron would do it. Ironically enough, there doesn't even seem to be a real idiot ball in this iteration, because by virtue of them all being idiots in a short form cartoon there's no need to create suspense with forced melodrama.
That's what gives the show its subtle charm. It makes fun of Thundercats, but doesn't do so at the expense of any reasonable expectations viewers might have for how the characters might act or solve problems, all without hamfisting in out of place elements due to never writing themselves into a corner. It's honestly refreshing to watch something that doesn't insult my sextile digit IQ for a change. I'm just surprised that the universally panned Roar turned out to be not so bad compared to other tumblrtoons like Steven universe and ok ko.
tldr The best way to watch Roar is to form your own opinions instead of buying into the hive mind, parroting off talking points and going into it looking for reasons to justify not liking a show you haven't even seen yet.
