>>112457042I think it could work in principle, but not as well as otherwise.
In all fairness, the hyper attachment to celibacy isn't very convincing. Supes, Nightwing, Oliver, Hal, etc all have wives or ltrs, so it doesn't make sense Batman shouldn't. I actually think the character works better married. Here's why:
>Inb4 chronic BatCat haters, triggered anti Tom Kingfags, and general autists.I'm not defending or endorsing BatCat, but a lasting relationship for Batman in general, with whomever you think best.
>But he's a loner. No, he's fucking not. Superman is a loner. Batman has a gaggle of kid sidekicks, but weirdly no wife or mother figure for them.
>But his enemies will attack the person closest to him.Sorry but they already do. This is the shit excuse you get from films like Spider-Man 2, which was dealt with for Batman in the 80s with Jason Todd. It's one thing to write a character as having a romantic relationship, but without the responsibility of children. Batman has the responsibility of children, but without the adult relationship that comes along with a spouse.
>B..but he's broken, and can't really love anyone like that. This is what Tom King gets wrong in spades. That take on Batman also makes him insufferable. Batman fucking loves being Batman. He's also well adjusted enough to be able to have relationships with adults. Take the grimdark angsty teen drama and stick it up your ass.
Also, high profile single parents of adoptees are weird. Maybe in the 1940s it was more acceptable for a rich guy, no matter how eccentric, to have a number of norgay male wards. But today, it's pretty unheard of. Imagine Elon Musk, John McAfee, or Donald Trump doing that. Rich people's public lives are too visible for this antiquated ward shit. Adopted kids a la Brad and Angelina maybe, but none of this single parent shit that makes you look like a male Charlize Theron.
