Why'd they get all upset at the Postman for initially being selfish and wanting to go gome when thats also what the girl was doing initially? Isnt the important part that he clearly had a change of heart?

I really liked the movie but that being the conflict towards the final act felt kinda contrived. You'd think that Klaus had been around him enough that he knew that he was doing the letters for a selfish reason at first.
