My only problem is Ewing said recently that Scarlet Witch isn't in anything he's writing for the foreseeable future, which likely means she's being left out of this event because of whatever shitty plans the X-books have.

Anyway I like Ewing but he's written Avengers events before, so he'll have "made it" when he gets the regular ongoing (and I think he'd do fine with it)

I've always thought that Ewing is middling writer who hides his boring, go nowhere ideas behind meta shit and digging up obscure characters that he doesn't actually do anything with. I've never liked him and never understood this board's fawning over him. He's basically Morrison and all of the more recent British writers mashed together into one person but not as good as any of the component parts. Though I guess treading water and being otherwise unremarkable outside of his gimmicks is better than writing something good and then falling off a cliff like Gillen, Cornell and Spurrier. The advantages of being a living mediocrity I suppose.

The big thing is that at a time when most writers consider continuity old-fashioned, Ewing fashioned himself as Continuity Guy, the writer who reads other people’s stories (not only the famous ones) and uses them in his own stories.

It was if nothing else a good marketing strategy because part of his fan base is based on his old school attitude about continuity.

This board doesn't fawn over him outside of Ewing specific threads from people that like to read his stories but even then there's discussion about him. Granted because he pissed off a few gators, and yaboi did some rage videos about him, there's been people who have been triggered by the mention of his name so you're not going to find one thread without someone sperging about him.

At least you have some legit reasons about not liking his writing even though I don't see anything of Morrison in his work and I don't know where people get that. That said the guy is pretty hit or miss for me (I didn't care for Royals or Ultimates and much less Mighty and New Avengers but I liked Agent of Asgard, No Surrender, No Road Home, Rocket and Contest of Champions). I've liked some of his work from 2000AD before he was at Marvel so the c-list/obscure continuity argument doesn't apply to me.

People like his writing because he understands the characters and respects the history, on top of turnung shit plots into interesting stories. It's his approach to meta context and keeping a very tight reign on the hierarchy. It's not in the same style as Morrison but considering the absolute cock up most people make of anything cosmic tier or above it makes sense that people would lump the two competent Englishmen together.

I tried to work out a map of the Marvel Universe as I experienced it - characters that appear in one book, and then another in an emotionally coherent way.

One of Al Ewing's top talents is his ability to look at what came before and utilise it so well. Loki was the character I followed into the Comics with Journey Into Mystery, which moved into Young Avengers - and then Ewing picked up Hulkling & Wiccan, Loki and Miss America in different series and they all seem like natural progressions for them.

Immortal Hulk is definitely God-Tier. How are his Avengers events?

Ewing is a symptom of the degrading of writers in comic books.

He's the most basic bitch level writer ever yet he's praised because he's doing the most basic things a writer should do.

If you actually stop measuring him by the metrics of other writers, it becomes clear he's rather mediocre.

Avengers: No Surrender and No Road Home are great, and honestly a safe heaven from Aaron while he was writing Avengers on his own. I particularly liked how in No Surrender there were backpage notes from the writers involved where they discussed the layout of the Hulk's rampage into this unused Avengers compound (referenced in classic stories mind you), and they had this whole sketch that they delivered to the artist so he'd know how to plot it. That attention to detail is precisely what I've come to like about his writing and it's infectious, since you end up expecting this level of commitment from other writers after that.
No Road Home was shorter and less detailed at times but the art was great and it was a good opportunity to build upon a group of characters that hadn't had any focus in a while: the Greek Pantheon. And best part is that it stuck since they're now one of the main antagonists in Ewing's GOTG to debut in a few weeks.

Yeah and if every other writer was Morrison, Gaiman and Moore, he'd look outclassed right away (even though I don't think he's at all out of their league, he just needs an even bigger catalog), but reality says otherwise.
Seriously what a dumb post. You're ignoring just how many mediocre writers are there and how these "standards" you speak of aren't the norm and haven't been for a long time, so it's not simply the continuity but the character work put into it that makes him stand out. You think some writers don't do the bare minimum with the research? Many of these hyped writers read a few back issues and think they're doing God's work for that tremendous effort, but then you read what they put out and it's terrible. Look at Cates thinking he's clever for using the creeping plague in his upcoming Thor series even though its origin was retconned to be universal decay (which he'd know had he read Gruenwald's Origin of Galactus), and on top of that treating this "feat" like it's some really obscure plot when it's the bare minimum for mining plots. And that's him trying!
