>>112224844It's not even about Jasper, its just that that was the only episode so far that did something interesting with exploring Steven and another gems dilemma. Every single new gem is either a pure cinnamon roll or a stupid jerk, and their problems are incredibly boring and dull, only being tools for Stevens development. Every episode pushes Steven being miserable way too hard and nobody ever notices anything (they did in Prickly Pair by the end but just watch how next episode they pretend its fine). So many episodes use generic tropes and do nothing interesting with it.
Little Homeworld so far is the only episode that had an interesting conflict. Steven and Jaspers arguments are great because they are both right and they are both wrong. They have a relationship that isn't friendly but isn't completely antagonistical either. And its the only episode that has Stevens issues being acknowledged by someone else and the conflict is resolved satisfactory, with both characters parting ways more satisfied than they where before, learning to have some respect for each other.
Every other episode has been so annoyingly cliched and too nice, pushing Stevens issues but never doing anything with it that makes him and the other characters interesting. Voleyball, the new gems in beach city, the Roses, the new Lapises, Bluebird, they are all such simpletons that its impossible for me to give a single fuck about any of them.
LH is only a 6 because we spend a lot of the episode introducing Little Homeworld and makes Jaspers arrival seem like it came out of nowhere, and because the fight itself was pretty badly animated. It could still have been better but its the only time so far this season where I was genuinely invested in what was going on with the characters. It also didn't recycle a plot line done to death in cartoons so maybe that has something to do with it.
