>>112165922Such a small quote, but there's so much to unravel!
First, there's the harsh and demanding tone in which he says it, accompanied by the imperative. It gives Ian this more serious characteristic that contrasts against the positive, enthusiastic, excitable way he normally is. Then there's the "or", which is used in this context like "or else". He's being threatening and he acknowledges it but he doesn't really care. Finally, the "bad things" which is really telling about his mindset. Ian knows that all this stuff he does to get Danger Mouse's attention is bad. If morality isn't an issue for Ian and he knows the difference between right and wrong, why would he view doing something bad as a valid means to getting what he wants? Well, I think he's learned it somebody. But who? His friends? Well, we've never seen Ian hang out with anyone, and his loneliness in "Roll of the Mice" suggests he doesn't have any. And, trust me, I can tell you from personal experience that anyone with a Danger Board probably isn't the best in social situations. Well, did he learn it from Danger Mouse? He's never seen DM do anything bad until "Crumfan", and even then, Ian already had that mindset and DM apologized at the end for treating Ian poorly. I guess that leaves us with only one, or two, last suspect(s): Ian's negligent parents.
Things are gonna get a little bit... Real, for a moment. I decided to take a look at how young victims of domestic abuse behave and see if any of their symptoms align with Ian's behaviour, and it's scary how much they do. Some examples I found that fit Ian's character were despair, denial, short attention span, out of control behaviour, aggression, shame and desensitization to violence.
