The days grow colder, the nights grow longer. That means /co/ Holiday Cheer is coming to town. Grab some cocoa, turn on the music of the season, get comfy, and hang out with some /co/mrades as we share stories and get into the holiday spirit.
As previous years, share your Amazon wishlist and some random Anon may purchase a holiday gift for you. Be sure to gift another Anon in return so we can spread the cheer far and wide.
Please check the Pastebin to learn how to get your wishlist code, add a shipping address, the benefits of using AmazonSmile, and all other information.
Last year we had 169 gifted anons, some more than once.
Ungifted lists:
pastebin.com/GiSViFxH (embed)
All lists:
pastebin.com/9WnLPeVr (embed)
To get your wishlist code, open your wishlist on Amazon, then copy the 11 digit number from the link. It will look like this:
amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/###########
We just need the ###########
Missing Address: When viewing your list, click the "…" in the upper right hand corner. From there click "Manage List" which will give you a few options including “Shipping Address”. While you’re here please check “Third party shipping agreement”. That will allow anons to buy you stuff that isn’t sold by amazon.
Please post when you buy something from a wishlist, either post the code again or link to their post of the code. Amazon has made it so we can't check to see what's been purchased.

Well, it's time to open the presents. I won't post any pictures because pretty much all flat surfaces in my house are still covered in food, but thanks for the Night Watch books, Elusive. Especially Guards, Guards, since that's the first Discworld book I've read, back in my old country. Which is the reason why I'm collecting them in English now - there's too many jokes that aren't translatable, and Pterry's writing suffered for it, so I decided that, since I can already figure out what the jokes were supposed to be, I might as well read the books in English. For Pete's sake, there's not even a word for "ape" that's different from the word for "monkey" in my language. Imagine what kinda impact on Discworld THAT has. By the way, as long as I'm complaining, the edition I've got kinda butchered the big YES in Reaper Man that I got from Elusive last year - sure, it's a bigger font than the rest of it, but it's a far cry from covering the whole page. Obviously though I'm not saying I'm not happy with the gift.

>>112164963 Best Christmas I've ever had as an adult. My nephew wanted a switch and pokemon more than anything in the world. He comes from a broken home and relies on his grandparents to not just buy him clothes and play pong with him for Christmas. I ended up playing hours of Pokemon with him and giving him a great Christmas. I remember my Gameboy at his age and now he got to enjoy his handheld with a family member the same way I did. That's all I wanted this Christmas. I didn't care what I got I wanted him to have his amazing childhood Christmas before he stops believing in Santa. He's at the sweet spot where Santas real but old enough to remember it as he grows. Him being crazy about pokemon and the switch lined up for a Christmas miracle.

When I was a kid, we'd exchange gifts at my grandparents and then play outside that night if weather permitted. My siblings, cousins, and I would spot planes passing in the night sky with blinking red lights and believed it to be Santa's sleigh with Rudolph in the lead. While laying outside on the trampoline at my grandparents' late last night, I pointed out a passing plane and they were in awe because it flew overhead right toward my parents' house down the road and another flew back by in the opposite direction a few minutes later. My wife and I made an excuse to leave a bit earlier and swapped cars so my parents could drive the kids home later. They arrived home shortly after midnight to delightedly discover an assortment of presents which hadn't been there when we left.

I'm late again, but all those holiday movies won't watch themselves. I have to pay closer attention to the clock next year, or I won't even be worthy of the name Calendar Man. So anyway, while December 25th is mostly a celebration of the Main (Son of) Man, there's still some patron saints for the day, and one of them is Saint Eugenia of Rome. Living in the Third century, she's pretty uncommon in that she wasn't just another pure virgin martyred during Christian persecutions. I mean, that still happened, but there's more to her this time. You see, after stumbling upon some of Saint Paul's writings, she became greatly intrigued by the Christian faith and, with some bros, she decided to join and start spreading it. Problem was, at that time only men could become priests or monks, so she decided that the only recourse was to crossdress up. After eventually becoming an abbot, she got #metoo'd by one of the women she miraculously cured, which led her to revealing her gender. She later moved to Rome - which is where her title comes from, since she was born in Egypt up until that time - where she converted many, mostly women. And then she got beheaded.

There's a South African guy who moved to China on YouTube and he has a video on Chinese people's vacation style compared to his European style. His wife wants to visit every tourist attraction ever on a strict schedule, he wants to relax and take in the stuff he really cares about. Even though he gets more done on the days they use his wife's schedule he gets less out of each of them because it's a check list and nothing more.
Don't make Christmas a check list. If you just want to lay in your sofa eating candy and watching every home alone movie then that's a fine Christmas. Unless your obesity is Jabba the Hutt levels of overweight they will say you could work a super market check out or a call center job. Your social worker might recommend you start hearing voices if you want to get on disability.

Anyone have any fun Christmas traditions? My family used to have ribbons on all the gifts instead of writing names, so we wouldn't know which presents were ours.
Anonymous
>>112179981 Okay, so this is not a family tradition. Every family does this where I live but I don't think its done anywhere else in the world...
We have whats called a "Caga tio" (pic related, its a "tio", every family has one) which translates to something like "The pooping log"
So the tradition goes as follows
> At the begging of December this aberration breaks into your house. One day you wake up and its there, waiting on your garden > From the time he arrives until the night of the 25th you have to feed it and keep it warm under a few blankets. Take care of him, prepare him for whats comming. > Then, on the night of the 25th the whole family gets around it... > And beats the shit out of it with sticks while singing and sometimes even dancing > Then, once the song ends the kids lift the blanket and lo and behold: it has shat a bunch of presents ("Caga" means "to shit") > This last step is repeated usually 3 or 4 times > Then, with only one night to recover, this poor thing leaves again to live in a cave in the mountains. Until next December, when it will be beaten again and again Here is some random video on YouTube of one of these poor creatures beeing brutalized

>>112179981 Every year, my brothers and I get an ornament for the tree. Early on they were more crazy, but after a time the folks reined it in and went with themes instead, it's a fun tradition.
On top of that, we always do something crazy for dinner, usually seafood. Whole family often pitches in to get things made, it's a great time though.

J67R8PGWA4YD, your keychain has been ordered (I'm not gonna pretend it wasn't the only thing on your list), but since it's only gonna be available from December 30th, you're going to have to wait for it quite a bit. Amazon says January 3rd through 7th.

I've been reading some really odd "x of the decade" lists today. Top spot probably goes to Polygon's games of the decades list which manages to exclude several hits and semi-hits while also including a mobile game about Kim Kardashian (and a remake of Tetris in the top 50).

The Patron Saint for December 26th is Saint Stephen, who has the dubious honor of being the first Christian Martyr. One of the seven deacons chosen by the original 12 Apostles (minus Judas, obviously) to help spread Christianity throughout Judea, he was too good at debating, so the Jewish priests (they're called "Kohens", apparently) falsely accused him of blasphemy and got him stoned to death.Really he's mostly notable for being the one who jump-started the heel-face turn of Saul of Tarsus, who later became Saint Paul. Also, very appropriate for Boxing Day, he's the patron saint of casket makers. As well as headaches, horses, masons and altar servers. And a bunch of cities throughout the world.

Alternatively, if you define Christians as followers of Christ, then Christ himself doesn't count because you can't be your own follower.
