>>111786282>Spider-Man applied to join the Justice League but Batman vetoed his acceptance citing the (then-recent) death of Gwen Stacey as proof of Spidey being incompetent, starting a deep-seated mutual loathing between the twoIn my opinion, this idea only works if the Justice League doesn't know Spider-man's identity, so they aren't aware why Gwen died or that she was one of Peter's loved ones.
Batman would probably see Gwen as an innocent bystander, since it would be hypocritical to judge someone incompetent because their mortal enemy took a loved one from him.
I could see a lot of their interactions being both arguing over what one sees at the other as flaws. We could also add the idea from previous Earth-7642 threads, where Dick and Peter became friends after Dick came to ESU when he left Gotham. That way, Batman and Spider-man would try to tolerate one another more, but there would always be this weird atmosphere between them since Dick could have met Gwen back then.
This all could lead to a scene where Peter is unmasked in front of JL, but Batman doesn't just recognize as just the guy who makes photo of spider-man, but also Gwen Stacy's boyfriend prior to her death since he would have tried to know as much as possible about the case. We could probably mention George Stacy's death and how Peter broke his promise to him.
>That face...!>What's the matter, bats? Surprised I'm not a billionaire like you?>You-you're the photographer who was... in a relationship with Gwen Stacy...>Spidey starts to heat up.>Oh, so you finally figured it out, great detective! So, how incompetent that makes me now?>The JL tries to calm down Peter, including Dick who is present and is trying to talk down Peter.>Pete, you need to calm down. I know them knowing your identity is troubling, but->No, Dick, bats has had this coming for a while now! >Batman starts talking again.>I didn't know about any of this. I... I understand now what I've put you through.>Oh, really?!1/2
