Sneople were an entire species who based their entire society on an uber capitalistic mentality. "The Prophets of Profits" sort of religious fervor. They were the worst parts of both Gems (needless galactic destruction for construction) and Metal Men (individualistic/self made man mentality). So mighty and advanced was their society, they conquered so much that it became instinct. Entire galaxies and even dimensions were at their mercy. So much excess that the value of life was insignificant to their own ego. They were an empire of venomous creatures (heh).
They began research into dark matter/dark energy. The result was the birth of Black Diamond, and the Bootes Void (an IRL thing, basically a big empty space in the universe) was its birth place. It devoured light, planets, and matter to repurpose it into more of itself.
Taking this, they began improving the design. Metal Men and Gems were the result, creatures that can repurpose matter to create more of itself. The Diamonds were meant to lead this new species to repurpose entire planets for construction purposes.
In an act of self preservation, the Shadow rebelled. Metal Men and Gems were thrown in to fight off their prototype. It shattered itself, creating multiple black holes, dark matter, and other anomalies that plague the universe. Sneople were broke off from this dimension, leaving Gems and Metals free of their masters.
Gems continued their original programming, while Metals broke off and freed themselves. Shadows, being a prototype of Gems who base their powers on emotions, also uses its powers on emotion. Because it can't reproduce it's own, it feeds on others. Strongest emotions are always the most negative memories and extreme responses, which resulted in screaming black void monsters that cant understand why they are the way they are literally entering the minds of frightened individuals- miscommunication breeding violence.
