Bart's Comet, Season 6
>This episode was only mildly amusing. There were some good gags ("Firing
Sidewinder missle", Moe: "Oh, dear God NO!"), but they were outnumbered by
lame ones (superfriends). Homer didn't have any good lines, either. I'd
give this one a "C".
>And this one started out so good, too... the beginning was a classic Bart
episode, with great gags like "There's a 4:30 in the morning now?" It was
great, all the way through the stuff with the "SuperFriends." (What, no
Black Vulcan??)
>But somewhere during the "middle act," it just became bogged down in all
the "doom is approaching" jokes... just like last season's episodes all
became bogged down in strings of "elephant jokes" or "Bart is famous jokes."
(And yes, the term "jokes" damn well does go in quotes for lame efforts like
these.) That's the last thing the show needs more of... there was such a
neat story building for a while, why'd they have to derail it?
>On another note, is anyone else sick of seeing Flanders take the abuse for
the whole show? If he's not suspected of being a murderer, he's kicked out
of the bomb shelter... Flanders was at his best when he was the ultimate
neighbor, the guy Homer could never hope to keep up with. Now he's variously
a total religious freak, a hidely-ho spouting foo-diddily-ool, or the town
victim. Give it a rest, folks.

>P.S. Just remembered the exact moment when the episode *really* sank in
my esteem: Homer and his little singing. How pathetic.
