>>111609831It is genuinely, legitimately straight autism.
I know people on both ends of the tube and the people with the money are sick, and the people making the art are, more often than not, exploiting that fact.
The furry community's "YCH" craze is an exemplar of this - with artists bringing work to 2/3rd completion then selling the privilege of allowing someone to insert their neon fuck doll in the mostly drafted and prepared position at a premium which, in saner times of old, would have bought dozens of individual pieces of art.
The parallels to loot box monetization - complete with FOMO, bidding wars and the reward of self-realization couple with external validation have created an industry sized skinner box.
Two specific examples I'll talk about-
One is a software engineer I grew up with. He makes about 250k a year working for a world wide bank, engineering the back bone of their infrastructure. He cannot manage money WORTH A DAMN. We're talking full blown autism here - and once I pointed it out to him he's gotten better. He's finally turned his massive income to the therapy and help needed to overcome some serious baggage - where before he was doing stuff like backing star citizen for a cool 50k because "spaceships."
An artist I know - a fairly prolific and well-to-do furry artist - and I have talked at length about how she essentially smiles through men essentially blowing money cumshots across her face. She showed me a chart she kept of her comissioners - some accounted for the equivalent of 20% of my yearly paycheck. All of her top 10 openly had some form of learning or emotional disability and used the furry Fandom as an alternative social life - with art conferring status and popularity regardless of actual personality.
The bottom line is that while there are professional porn creators out there, the market is increasingly becoming parasitic. There's no clever mechanism behind it though - just lonely people who cannot manage their expenses.
