This excuse fell apart in season four when all of the characters sort of fell apart and all of the major characters had their threads tied up just for them to hide in the background 90% of the time.
If we sort of go back to a season one dynamic with the gems the "filler" will be great but I am worried.

If they do that as well then its even more bullshit because
1)They make Jasper retreat and skip an arc AGAIN
2)The other episodes descriptions have nothing to do with her so she's not going to show up for a long while if she escapes
3)How the fuck would she get away? Steven has an army of gems at her side and all Homeworld supports him. No way they couldn't track one Jasper down in less than 5 minutes.
If they don't do that rushed redemption, Jasper will be bubbled (again) and probably the Aquamarine fusion saves her. Her episode description states that Steven "doubts her motives", which is probably to free Jasper since Navy is such a fan of her. But even thats fucked because the episodes after that have nothing to do with either of them. So once again, more delay on giving Jasper an arc.
No matter which way you see this, they fucked up.

She's a catalyst, not a part of the story. Jasper may be "perfect" but she's just some random solider who follows the company creed. Her and Lapis (and Peridot) have no proper connection to Pink like Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet do. Future is where the lines become a bit more blurred, which is a good thing.

Jasper's sole motivation during her first arc was to avenge Pink by killing Rose, even after Pink's death Jasper's loyalty remained with her rather than Yellow Diamond, her issues with self loathing partially stem from failing Pink, Rebecca says she deeply loves and cares for Pink, her new motivation is going to revolve around her reaction to finding out Pink betrayed her and is the same person she hated for ruining her life. I have depression anon and the way Lapis portrayed it was pretty spot on. Sleeping to avoid being awake, mood swings, disassociating etc., it's all pretty genuine. More on the PTSD side of things but that's about it.

When someone uses a somewhat vague character in the show to insert their own fanfic and oc into and when that character doesn't align at all to the character in their head they get mad and call the show garbage. She was an ex-Pink Diamond gem with self worth issues that developed from Homeworld teaching her to hate herself for coming from Earth and failing her purpose, she never felt like she deserved to be accepted due to her shameful origins and was fighting because she was desperate to prove that she's perfect by homeworld standards to make up for it, she went rogue against Yellow Diamond's orders and homeworld law multiple times just to try to kill "Rose" as a way to avenge Pink Diamond and redeem herself, she was trapped in an abusive fusion that screwed up her self worth even more which lead to her acting more self destructively and feeling like she was worthless enough to deserve being corrupted. She no longer wears a diamond because she is no longer aligned with homeworld, her loyalty was completely to Pink Diamond but now it turns out that Pink Diamond betrayed her and is the same gem she was created just to fight against in the war, her existence is meaningless and her life is a trainwreck, she's going to find a way to blame Steven because he's an extension of Pink Diaomod and she's going to be in existential crisis mode, her having to learn that she has value outside of being Pink Diamond's perfect soldier is where her arc needs to lead since we already got the tragic self destruction/inability to move on from the past ending out of her last arc

There was an unused script where (in a flashback), Rose, Garnet and Pearl briefly fuse into "A New Quartz" which MIGHT explain how Steven could be in "two fusions" at the same time. Just an idea.
