If we're going down this old train of thought, how about we paint Alabasta as the true good guy? He believes the Hotel is a lost cause but he tries anyways. And his entire power is based on the conquest of Hell he accomplished through radio broadcasts - in other words, something more falsifiable than even television.
But I don't know, if the setting is hell and all the characters are demons, do we really get anywhere by trying to sniff out who of them is secretly evil? They're all evil, they're demons. We can try to sniff out who is good, or, uh, less bad.
