Steven become close with the gems after they confront his father and uncles for shattering several of their species for attempting invasions of earth.
Just when it seems a fight to the death is to ensue, Nora and Steven talk things out and find their goals are not too dissimilar: preventing undue violence.
Each talks their side down and everyone eventually comes to quite like each other (except for Pearl and Charlie, the two simply can't seem to get along).
