>>111143927well I have read the whole preacher a long time ago. Read said Barracuda issues.
Not too much though as like I said it just isn't bearable to me.
The page you posten is a pretty darn good example of what I mean. As some other dude pointed out it's an all you can eat nihilism buffet.
His pop was a good dude. And he got shot in the head.
Jesse Custer is not an ambiguous character. He is a prick. He is the protagonist, but I remember him being farfrom a hero.(like I said, it's been a while so I might be wrong, but I suppose I set the bar higher for people than most.) Custer fights really rotten cunts so he sounds "kinda ok" by comparison.
Characters is one thing with Ennis, the other is worldbuilding.
I probably am biased but his "issues" with religion are kinda telling. I can't take him seriously. I don't mind edginess. As a matter of fact I love it. But it has to be rooted in something authentic. His understanding of religion reminds me of someone who tries to mock science by attacking an atom explanation told to 13 yearolds. "So you're telling me these tiny balls have hands and they hold each other? And some of them have more than one pair of hands?Balls with hands? You hearin yourself, mate" This is what it sounds like when I hear "so u believe in an old white beard dude on a cloud hurr durr". Immediate facepalm with the force of a 1000 exploding suns. And everyfucking thing reads as he is just so butthurt about the world being like it is. Don't know, maybe he was dealt a shitty hand. Some people are. But honestly that's not the vibe I'm getting. The vibe I'm getting is him using his 50yo intellect to facilitate expressions of an emotional 16yearold.
You guys mention hope in his books but show me a few examples where this hope amounts to something more tha barely surviving.
And even when it does, those stories are still just full of ugly. I won't dive into a pool of shit to fish out a tasty sandwitch.
