>>110997249>How would they react if separated for a long period of time? There's a topic worth engaging without vitriol.
The short answer is, well for some, worse for others.
The problem is twofold. Kanker life has a tight grip on them. Lee may look down on them, Marie may tire of Lee's bossing and May's dependency, and May may tire of their belittling and abuse but they seem to get that without each other they've got nothing, not even one friend.
They also have internal issues.
They're warped reflection of the Ed boys.
Lee has Eddy's unflinching bravado but no insecurity of status or stature, or domineering shadow of an older sibling. So while Edd is able to appeal to Eddy's conscience with enough time and words, in an episode where Edd simply tried to negotiate with Lee, she doled out abuse the entire time, barely listening, simply to amuse herself, even though he was being respectful and recognizing her authority. As a loner she'd be a notch below Eddy's brother since she's shown able to restrain herself at times.
May has Ed's simplicity, but wher Ed was softened by his elder brother role into a gentle giant, May has become frustrated and conditioned enough by her sisters that without hesitation and even with glee at times she can take it out on even Jimmy.
We do see a hopeful example when May has a cupid crush on Double D.
She cleans up her act, and like Edd she could probably fit in with the rest of the kids with effort to be a good middleman between the circles, but her low esteem hinders that.
Then there's Marie. Edd's quiet cunning, but little of his open compassion. She seems able to admire Edd's virtues, but it seldom evokes any of her own. She'd be a more stubborn Eddy. Which was shown as a bad road without company, without Eddy's same moment of brutal honesty to see and admit how dejected that life is and turn around for help, it's spotty. And Eddy put up a front of indifference, Marie seems to have really stopped caring after her introduction.
