So ignoring the constant un ending controversy about this show is New-She-ra any good? judging the extremely low bar set by the original in terms of quality i expect it to be better than the original but does it stand on its own? any stand out episodes?

There are some really good episodes, but they rely on character development for context so you can't just skip to them. If you watch the first couple of episodes and like the dynamic between Adora and Catra, or like Entrapta from episode 6, the show will probably be worth watching for you.

The "controversy" stuff is largely nothing since the show is Y-7 and the themes are pretty universal, there are a few confirmed gays but relationships are mostly friendship/rivalry/parental.

Just finished watching season 3 (episode 26). I quite like it. There are a number of standout episodes, generally involving the two main characters in the latter half of the season when the plot starts to kick in. Season 3 in particular is good from start to finish.

Also, it's not an action show. If you want action... I think Carmen Sandiego and Seis Manos do pretty well in that area.

I liked it from the start but ...I almost agree with this? The show is a slow burn and takes time to ramp up into being really good, but with a limited number of episodes, the early stuff isn't as good as it should be.

Nu She-Ra tries to be goofy and have fun--it is still a kid show after all-- but unlike the wonderful camp of classic MotU/PoP, they legitimately try to flesh out the characters and the villains in particular are so much the better for it.

However, I still miss the *insane* displays of super strength both Grayskull siblings demonstrated from the older shows, though, and really hope She-Ra herself starts bowling tanks or dive kicks a hole in lava monsters before the series is done. The series needs more of that, even if the plot is raising the stakes.

Well the biggest problem of the show is honestly the visual side of things, starting with things not having shading most of the time, which feels really cheap when on digitally colored shows like this, and escalating to things changing color for a few shots.
The writing side of things is mostly kind of okay, but the character of queen Angela and her relationship with her daughter were tragically mishandled and there's no hope of them being improved since she dies
Voice acting is pretty great, and sound design is kinda bland but I didn't really expect much from that
It's like a solid 6.5-7 (as a whole, a few episodes peak to an 8) for me, not super good but not bad enough to make me drop it

Entrapta, Hordak and Scorpia are pretty entertaining. Really most of the villains are pretty good since they have desires of their own, while the heroes are mostly just countering those desires.
Of the heroes, Glimmer's pretty up there, though.

I really like it. A lot of the characters are very irritating, but the show grows into focusing more and more on the core characters and stories worth focusing on. Season 3 was absolutely amazing in my opinion, and makes up for a weaker season 1 and 2.
In terms of episodes to watch, I'd say give Promise a shot. If you liked the conflict portrayed in that, you'll like what else the show has to offer.

The Horde could use some more characters who are not just faceless goons. In that scene when Catra is brought up to Hordak with her arms cuffed, every Horde soldier was wearing a helmet except Scorpia and the 3 ones from Adora's squad. That seemed kinda odd at for me. Or why don't Kyle, Lonnie and Rog wear their combat uniforms while in the field like everyone else did in that S2 episode where they had to defend that Horde-controlled fortress.
But again, it's a bitch and a half to animate so many individual characters when you can just reuse assets.

It goes deeper than that - in some languages, verbs are gendered based on the subject.
For example, in polish, "I/We went" would be "Posz?AM" for women, "PoszED?EM" for men, "PoszLI?MY" for a group of men and "Posz?Y?MY" for a group of women. It's grammatically impossible to remove the gendering.

Plus it's possible that the average tech level in the True Horde is much higher than in the Etherian Horde, considering that Hordak had to build the Fright Zone from scratch out of a single (presumably crashed) ship. For the equivalent of a lone Techmarine, he's done remarkably well.

The ENTIRE Imperium would of course crush what's been shown/implied of the True Horde, because the entire Imperium is a juggernaut that can crush 99% of things through sheer manpower and bloody-mindedness.

This. Do we even know what's the composition of the expeditionary/reclaimer fleet when the empire discovers a long lost world? I assume a chapter of space marines at minimum, lots of imperial guard, maybe some titans/knights and let's not forget a fleet of sufficient size is what I'd expect.

We hear Hordak say his brother Horde Prime’s arrival is “imminent.” What does that mean for Hordak and Catra?

We saw Hordak show a little bit of hesitation in the last season about sending for Horde Prime because I think as much as he sees this as his ace in the hole — that if Horde Prime shows up with all of his resources, he’ll be able to conquer Etheria pretty easily — he’s also a little bit afraid of his brother showing up. And Hordak is very motivated t have everything very under control by his brother’s arrival. And I think Catra is kind of holding that over his head. She knows how scared he is of Horde Prime arriving, and that’s what she’s using to keep Hordak doing what she wants him to do. “Your big brother is going to be here soon. Don’t you want to have everything conquered by the time he gets here?” I don’t know that Catra is quite expecting much from Horde Prime. She has a much more personal goal in conquering Etheria. But I think every character, having that threat of this even bigger power hanging over them, it just heightens the stakes for everybody.

No, the Horde definitely tried to conquer Etheria. I don't know how you missed all the references to it, particularly in Season 1 as the Horde is expanding and trying to capture Brightmoon. In season 3, he's even disappointed with himself that he can't conquer one planet by himself. He says this explicitly. You just posted a long disassembling of everything wrong with the writing, except you missed crucial parts of the writing.

Why would it be? All the episodes are done and this doesn't need toy sales or anything to continue airing.

The shows that got cancelled were funded by Netflix or at least had financial involvement from them (Orange is the New Black, The OA, etc.)

She-Ra is funded and produced by DreamWorks so Netflix loses nothing by airing it.

There's no official word, but DreamWorks did this same shit with Voltron and the She-Ra crew are even less tight lipped about the fact that the show is done. Also this show does have a healthy community. Its 3 convention panels were packed and there's a good amount of fan produced works (mostly fanfiction).
