I don't understand how it couldn't just be written up some way to have the prophecy come true and for him to be alive, he was the only hint at an end to the original series and it was just thrown away?

A pretty clear theme of the season was Ashi overcoming the circumstances of her creation and her upbringing to become a hero. That was pretty fittingly finished off by her being the key to getting back to the past. That's fairly incompatible with the Guardian being how Jack gets back.

All these. You can't blame the fans for being hyped over potential foreshadowing, nor can you blame them for being pissed when it's glossed over in favor of awkward romance.

You should however blame [AS]/Toonami for clearly picking up on that and throwing it into the trailer, and Genndy for overdosing on the subversion pill.

Well, it's no as much "prophecies aren't supposed to change" as you may want to go for "make your own destiny" theme, but this definitely shouldn't be glossed over. He should at least have gotten some focus episode if he was going to die.

Jack's sword is the only thing that can harm Aku. Doesn't matter how strong you are if Aku is completely invincible. We saw other stuff at least stun him (see the giant robot at the end of season 5) but it wouldn't have any lasting effect.

For all we knew the Guardian kicked the absolute shit out of Aku for like a year straight but Aku just wouldn't die and eventually he got exhausted.

Full honesty here. I didn’t even remember him until people started complaining he didn’t show back up. It’s clear to me that Genndy had plans for an aged Jack for a while, hence the image of him in the crown. More than likely the way he ended the series was a variation on his original idea, but as the story evolved to be about an ageless Jack that concept got abandoned or forgotten.

Genndy is at fault. He went with a grandfather paradox instead of keeping Jack in the future and having him accept that he needs to make a better future because he can't change the past.
Genndy was seduced by the idea of a romantic subplot which completely unhinged the theme of the series.

The first three episodes were good but they were eating at me when I was watching them because I predicted that some plot threads are going to get discarded. That's usually what happens when a classic series gets brought back. They changed Jack too much to adhere to the original run.

I could have accepted it if the ending wasn't so incredibly rushed. It sure was important to name and introduce whole bunch of the Scotmans daughters for more than a minute then as soon as Ashi was free she went "I GOT TIME PORTAL POWERS" BWOOP and 10 seconds later the final stab on Aku is made and the good guys win.

Genndy never had an idea on how to end the series while he was still writing it, it was just a cool scene to put in. He didn't start coming up with the ideas that would become S5 until after the show ended and fans kept asking him "how was it supposed to end?", apparently not understanding an episodic action cartoon with little plot was never supposed to have an ending

He can still be part of the story easily. Just it won't happen because Gendy is done.
