For instance, I was surprised at how raw and emotional this show was without necessarily being sappy about it. I like how there's no real "villains" on the show (I guess the occult apes were), it's just the brutal cycle of prehistoric life. I actually gave shit about Fang's beatdown in the last episode, something I haven't felt in a cartoon for a long time.
I like how everything has logical consequences to the environment. There's always going to be some nerd that will point out dinosaurs didn't exist at the same time as man, but if a dude breaks his leg in this world, he is fucked. There is no real solution for that, which you're reminded of when Fang gets her leg broken in the last episode.
I like how things aren't spelled out for the audience, and you're expected to get a bit immersed and figure shit out on your own. The bat-men's relationship with the spider makes sense if you think about it, but no one is going to explain that relationship to a fucking dinosaur that just wants her buddy back. Same deal with the emotions of "people" and animals.
I like how Spear represents what made human beings the apex predator. He's not a genius, but he's willing to analyze his environment and put two and two together to overcome his own limitations. He's still very much cro-magnon man or whatever, but you get why he's alive when others aren't.
This show could easily have been superjail for the Jurassic era and I don't think anyone would have complained, but it's so much better than that.
