>>110598141>Manga is a very relative newcomer, but its growth has slowed down a lot in the last 10 years whereas the comic industry has grown more than 50% in that period.Actually, that's not really accurate. After looking around I found this white paper from earlier this year that draws on both Bookscan and Diamond data to show that manga revenue growth is outpacing the general graphic novel category and print book sales.
http://project-anime.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/State-of-the-U.S.-Manga-Market-2018-1.pdfThe graph on p. 3 is interesting. Manga sales peaked in 2007 then went into freefall until 2012. But from that low point manga sales have been growing every year since 2013 through today. As such, the gross revenue of manga has risen by about 7.2% between 2017 to 2018, though it's still well below the 2007 peak. Manga now represents roughly 25% of the North American graphic novel market.
Anyway, it's nice to finally have some numbers. The truth seems to be that manga sales were outpacing US comic sales, at least in the graphic novel market, until 2007 when they took a hit for 5 years, but have recovered and are again outpacing US comic sales. It's therefore correct to say that manga is gaining in popularity on US comics.
In fact, though you didn't provide a source, if we accept your statement that:
>whereas the comic industry has grown more than 50% in that period. It's even worse for US comics, since even that increase apparently isn't enough to overcome manga's pace.
Before screeching at me and hurling your feces like you've been doing, please read the report and provide data if you disagree.
