>>110445517I don't know that there was ever actually a name given to this character, but the idea was that you had a powerful female hero with a generic 'Captain Marvel'-esq powerset and name who was a famous hero. And then she went off into space to fight an important battle for the fate of the world and died.
Except no she didn't. She got sidetracked with other hero shit, got lost in time and space a bit, and had some other adventures before finally getting back to Earth 3 years later... to find out that after she 'died' some new up-and-coming male hero has adopted her name and legacy.
The new hero is a massive fanboy of the female hero, because of course he is. He adopted her name, after all. And he HAS been doing good work in her absence. In fact, he is more powerful than she ever was, though she is loath to admit it. And the new hero doesn't realize this.
So the new hero, in his hero-worship, keeps projecting a greater degree of strength, power, willpower and general awesomeness onto the female hero than she really has, which keeps getting her into trouble by putting her on the hook to deal with stuff thats actually kind of out of her range. But she refuses to let herself look bad in front of the kid because she doesn't want to be seen as the 'obsolete' version of the hero, driving her to push her limits and just barely eeking out a win against stuff she knows she should be calling in help for.
Each new victory, of course, only validating the dudes inflated opinion of her, his favorite hero.
