If someone loves Scooby Doo cartoons and wants to write a story where Shaggy and Fred fall in love, why should I respect that any less than if the soulless corporation who owns Scooby Doo pays some rando to write a story where Shaggy and Fred fall in love?
Every major property these days is so far removed from its original creators that it's just fanfiction. But rather than coming from a place of passion like good fanfiction does, the "official" work is just mercenary attempts to cash in on trends.
