Otto concludes that he can't defeat the alternate Norman Osborn as he is now, so he makes a deal with Mephisto and is reverted back to being Doctor Octopus, free of all mental and physical disease. He still remembers all of his heroic actions, but he has lost all of the Peter Parker memories that were what drove him to be a real hero in the first place.
