Nah man, we haven't had actual worthwhile male characters in a long time. If they don't reek of estrogen then they're still butt monkeys to female characters like Ron Stoppable. And even if they got some kind of capability they're still losers who bend backwards to women like Danny Phantom or in modern day Mao Mao (his sisters are superior fighters compared to him the joke of the family).
So yes in conclusion we're living in terrible times for male characters. They're lame. They're emasculated. They're losers. They're incompetent. They suck. No wonder anime is sought after much more. Not that anime doesn't have lame male characters, but you're better off searching in anime than even bothering with western media.
