>Adam and Skeletor have a deeper relationship than good guy-bad guyAdam and Skeletor are already nephew and uncle. You just need to make sure both are very aware of that fact and have it influence their conflict.
>Teela is a main character, She already is and always has been. Seriously, He-Man almost never does ANYTHING without Teela, Duncan and Orko in tow.
>Man-at-Arms has a black, no-nonsense cop personality, He's already a no-nonsense character. He ALREADY has that personality. And there;s no reason to make him black when yo have other characters to use. (But, I will concede that if this was a live action film, a limited cast coupled with a need for diversity would make Duncan the most likely to be racebent. But we're talking cartoons right now)
>Orko is not just comic relief, An actual valid criticism. Orko works best when he hits that sweet spot of being a jokey magician but still being able to lend a legitimate hand. The episode where he and Cringer find the power sword, or the episodes with Dree-Elle and Uncle Montork spring to mind. He just needs to be that way consistently.
>King Randor borders on being a despot, No. One thing I am sick of is "the good guys are actually not good people and the villains are just misunderstood!" bullshit.
>Skeletor's gang are a mix of criminals and misunderstood deviants, It already is.
>He-Man is not at the whims of the Sorceress or Grayskull and forges his own pathHe isn't? She doesn;t tell him what to do. She just calls him for help whenever the Castle is in imminent danger, but other than that, he goes where he likes and helps whoever he likes. Really, if your going to take that stance, you might as well get rid of the concept of the Power of Greyskull altogether, since the only reason He-Man HAS that power is to protect the fabulous secret powers. But if you want He-Man to go back to being the minicmics barbarian who just wats to leave his village and fight for justice, thats fine.
