All it takes is one reasonably skilled, wide-eyed fool for the company to profit on this "contest", and there are enough wide-eyed fools out there for them to win even if most experienced artists know better.
That's the trick with globalism and the race to the bottom. There's always someone willing to do hard work for less pay, so companies will always go to the lowest bidder. In the long run, yes, this absolutely devastates the market. Look at Youtube, they have an algorithmic system that picks out lowest bidders every day and promotes them, and their animation community is fucking dead. They don't have comedians, they don't have special FX artists. They don't have stories outside personal anecdotes. But it's not about long-term health of the market, it's about short-term stock growth while the current CEO waits for the terms of his golden parachute to kick in.
You cannot possibly educate every last mortal on earth about how these systems are a scam, and there is nothing stopping anyone from running scams like this.
