Like people lying about having multiple personality disorder, trying to push the "MOGAI" movement, girls pretending to be bi because they thought it increased their appeal to boys.
I guess the anxiety is that society has run away with "gender is meaningless and arbitrary" in the wrong direction. Instead of "there's no right way to be a man or a woman, feminine men and masculine women are fine and normal, gender is meaningless and only biological sex exists" it's "let's write up and codify 100+ new genders and aggressively gender stereotype everything". It seems to be a pretty mainstream position. And it's being codified into law and "sensitivity guidelines".
Blogpost but nobody's here anyway so I will anyway: About two years ago I needed to construct a survey, one of the mandatory questions was "sex" and you weren't allowed to have male/female, you had to have male/female/other. 40% of my respondents chose "other". It dicked up my results, no way I could look at gender correlation. "Other" should really only be for intersex people. Why are people like this.
