There is a difference between e-bullying and walking down the street at night in a criminally infested area. You can't compare a bad neighborhood to the entirety of Twitter, even if Twitter is a shithole, it's not the same level of danger as one where you can get shot and lose your life.
It's easy to block out any "invitation of attacks" just by blocking on the spot and giving them no reply. These people feed on Twitter-equivalent of (you)'s. It would've died down after a week if she gave it no attention just like any other art-related drama like people going after artists for "drawing Korra too light" or "Rose too thin". Saying she opened herself up and should've thought better could be applied to any number of events where people get outraged over nothing.
There are people who tried to shit all over Spongebob for being "transphobic" for a short period of time, I don't think Bob Camp was "opening himself up" for attacks by designing that character.
