When you think about it, breaking Batman's back was the highlight of his life.
He's never really accomplished anything else. Sure, he's built up some criminal empires and shit, but that's hardly a big deal in the DC Earth, and those never really lasted or went anywhere.
Beating Batman once is still his greatest achievement. It's no wonder he keeps bringing it up. It's kind of sad. Batman has beaten him every time since, but Bane'll still go "yeah, but remember when I beat you that one time?"

Bane and Doomsday are both cut from the same cloth.

Both made to take out the hero temporarily and then lose to them when they make their comeback. Then neither of them were able to top their original introductions.

Doomsday killing Superman is literally the biggest thing about him.

Bane breaking Batman's back being the same. (While also breaking out prisoners, forcing a sickened Batman to stress himself out, and doing out smart things but only the back breaking is remembered)

Then both were temporarily replaced (Superboy, Steel, Eradicator and Cyborg Superman / Azrael) before they returned to take back the cape/cowl.

...Wonder what would happen if you injected Doomsday with venom...
